Hi Folks

Since most of you did not go to rehab, you might not have had any sessions with OT (occupational therapy) and may be missing out on some useful gadgets and tips. I found the OT folks full of useful tips. Some of these things were in my room when I came up from surgery, others were delivered the first day on the rehab floor.

1. Rigid Leg Lift

This is the greatest thing around. It has a long ridge (like in plastic not wood) handle with a big loop at the bottom. At the beginning I used it to pick up my leg when I had no quad strength, now I use it to help pull my knee back when I do heel slides and other exercises to get my knee to move back.

2. Sock helper

This is great to get those TED stockings on. It has a flat plastic bottom and the sides are a triangle of material with handles. You put the TEDS on it, put your foot in and pull and like magic the TEDS are on. Also good for socks.

3. Elastic shoe laces and long shoe horn.

With elastic laces you do not have to untie your shoes to get them off. Combined with the long shoe horn and you get shoes on without too much trouble.

4. Grabber

Useful to pick up things that drop on the floor or are out of reach.

5. Sock remover/pants hook

Stick with hooks at the end that you can use to remove socks or pull up your pants.

6. Long handle sponge

Big sponge on a long handle, great for the shower.

7. Toe wash cloth

This one is a little out there but it has a long handle and the end is a square of wire covered with terry cloth. You can then get between your toes clean.

Well I just thought I would pass this on as you might find some of use. Living alone I probably have more use for them.

I got a lot of gadgets like those at hospital and like the leg lifter the most (especially on first few days). I usually get goosed by the grabber by my misbehavin hubby!

I can think of some uses for most of them already!
