I'm 70 (almost) years old and have been told that I will probably have to have hip surgery. My family doctor says I need to wait as long as I can. I now have pain in my hip that requires Celebrex once daily Lyrica twice daily and Advil every 4 hours. Is there anyone who has had hip replacement that is near my age? I have not yet had to use a walking cane of any type. How long should I wait? Any information is appreciated!

I've seen patients have hip replacements when they were 98 years old! It all depends upon their mental and physical faculties. If your condition is such that you have a poor quality of life then I would say that now is the time to have it done. The only real reason for waiting is when one is very young because that increases the risks of having to have a revision at some stage. But at 70 I would say that this is hardly worth thinking about and also, you need to improve your quality of life to make the best of what you've got. My advice? Don't wait - get it done!
