I have both support tights and also thigh high compression stockings and they work great for me. I use two websites--footcare.com and discountsurgicalstockings.com. Also, there is a brand called Truform which is sold at Walgreen's for one which has some stockings---I have found that the calf high ones do not work with my knee--they are too tight under the knee.
I find the thigh high ones to be very comfortable and wear them always when I work. I have been having some swelling on the inside of my knee--finally followed my husband's advice and went to see a vascular surgeon. He diagnosed venous insufficiency---just had an ablation of my saphenous vein--yesterday and I can see the difference in the swelling today.
I am six months today and my knee has almost no swelling at this time. I will have to use the stocking for two full weeks and then will always use them when I work in the store. they did help me quite a bit in the early stages.
Also, I have found that when I leave the store, I sometimes have swelling of my knee. I go to the pool and put on a belt that keeps me up in the water, then go to the deep end of the pool and "run" in the water for 30 minutes. When i get out, the swelling is gone. I think it is the motion of the knee, plus the pressure from the water which helps.
Keep working, it does get better--but, I think that the more proactive you are, the better the result. I skied last weekend, had a great time and did not have any swelling after four hours of skiing. I am now convinced that this ski season will be a lot of fun for me. Kelly
