Revision TKR Four Months Out and Still Can't Walk

Hi @Mensamama I’m so sorry for what you’ve been going through. It sounds like it’s been a rough go ): I can relate to the things you’re feeling. I had a huge setback at 4 weeks that took me months to come back from. I also haven’t been able to work and felt I was putting a big burden on my husband. I got really depressed, the lowest I’ve ever been. I get it. (Though I’m happy to say I’m doing MUCH better now at 7 months!)

It’s awful you had to go through two MUA’s and still didn’t get any lasting improvement in your ROM. I’m not saying you have Arthrofibrosis, but I know that @WFD has struggled with this and has had challenges similar to yours. He is an inspiring individual and can maybe offer some words of advice and/or encouragement.

You’ve come to the right place. So many people here have gone, or are going through, similar experiences and can sympathize and provide support, both practical and emotional. We’re here for you to lean on
I’m sorry to hear you are having such a tough go of it. The threat of losing your job must be terrible and stress doesn’t aid recovery. I had my second TKR two days ago. I was given a brace straight after surgery to wear at night to keep my leg straight and try and avoid going back in for MUA as I did after my first TKR. Everyone is different and you can’t beat yourself up because you are taking longer than others to recover. I wish you all the best

For once, something positive to post! I am down to PT twice a week and am getting better ROM. I hit about 101-105 degrees by myself and have been up to 115 with assistance. The stiffness is still there when I first get up after sitting, or when I stand for a period of time, like when cooking. But overall, I finally feel like there may be an end in sight. Even if I don't get a lot more ROM, going down steps is the only real limitation I am feeling at this time--keeping in mind that I am 66 and don't do a whole lot of kneeling or getting down on the floor any more, anyway. I can do the steps up fairly well, and down just takes a bit longer and a little concentration. The swelling is better, too. I am hopeful that the stiffness and occasional pain will get better and better, having heard that it can take a year or so, and my revision was May 15.

I'd really like to thank everyone who commented on my posts, because it was great to have some support and to know that others were feeling, or felt, the same as I. This is a great forum, and I will recommend it to anyone I know that has any kind of surgery with which this forum deals.

You sound like you are coming along just fine. Going down the steps is always more difficult than going up for some reason.

I found I got quite uncomfortable waiting in checkout or other lines. I still do with my old knee. Stepping in place helps me a whole lot. That keeps the knees moving, helping to relieve the stiffness and pain.

I too have had a TKR followed by 2 MUA's within a year all to no avail. Knee remained stiff, pain occurring at random spots on or near knee including patella Tendon area. Then after 2 yrs. a revision(TKR) with the same results so now I am 5+ years post 1st TKR and have seen 7 Ortho. surgeons. X-rays look good they say, nothing to fix! Maybe but something is def. wrong! Now I am scheduled to have the other knee done and worry that the new surgery will end up as the 1st did-surgery a success, results poor. I am 79 and this all started when I was 74. No gardening, golfing, long walks, etc. any more. Just careful ambulation with cane and walker. Anyone tried to see a Dr. Bellmann in Belgium? He is said to be the best! App'ts to see him are 2-3 years away.
