For You Insomniacs...

I'm sure it's been discussed over and over.....but, I'm gonna ask again....

WHY are some of us having such a hard time sleeping? I can work a 9 hour day....come home and get supper ready....do laundry....PT......go to bed and sleep for 30 minutes and then I wake up -wide awake. Why is that?

Wish I could tell you, Patti. I really do.

As for me - I'm off to bed. I have an unexpected day's work tomorrow....

I wish I knew too. I was up from 1am-4:30am last night. I just pop wide awake and know that there is no use in trying to go back to sleep. To make matters worse, despite all of the cable channels, I can't find anything worth watching.

I couldn't tell you---and my Ortho surgeon couldn't tell me either---but he said that it was normal. I am sleeping very nicely now.

For me, two issues---I couldn't get comfortable with both knees being replaced, and my sleep schedule was ll messed up, too.

I only scored a 70%...My family would disown me if they knew

I got 45% Yankee - "barely into the Yankee category" - now - how is that possible? I've lived in Northeast Ohio my entire life!

This is funny!

I will say something about the insomnia---I would go to bed, sleep for about an hour or so--and that was it. I would be up watching "Law and Order" or "SVU" on cable channels until I was wiped out. I would finally go to be d when my wife got up to go to work. I tired sleepin on the couch, the futon, the futon mattress on the floor, and in my son's bed when he ws at college---none worked worth a darn. I finally took some Ambien, got my sleep schedule back in order, and then, finally, a reall honest-to-goodness godd night's sleep.

I think we get used to being up all night, and the body expects that, so that is what the brain gives us...I dunno...what I do know is that the more I tried to go to sleep, theharder it was and the more PO'd I became---hence, even more sleeplessness.

I would play games onthe 'puter too...

Mine was 96% Dixie. Guess my Texan heritage shows. It asked if I was General Lee's daughter, so maybe it also thinks I'm pretty old!!

I wonder about sleep, too. I have to be at work at 6 am tomorrow. Don't know how I'll do it. I lay in bed for 2 hours trying to get to sleep, then I get to sleeping well and something or someone wakes me up. I get too hot, too cold, leg hurts, need to potty, need a drink, it's always something.

Pray that I get a good enough night's sleep to make it to work tomorrow. It will be my first day in the actual office since December 15! Hope I remember the way!

BTW I agree that there is almost nothing except paid programming on in the middle of the night. I record stuff throughout the day and night so that I have things to watch any time of the day. Also, enrolled in NetFlix so we almost always have new movies and that helps. I also crochet, read, etc. I found out that being in front of the TV or PC tends to keep us up and that activities such as knitting, reading, etc. that cause our eyes to go back and forth tend to make us tired and ready for bed. So, you might want to lay off the TV and PC and do something else. Even playing solitaire with a real deck of cards instead of the PC could help. Early on, my mother-in-law sent me a jigsaw puzzle and that was something I did when I couldn't sleep.

My daughter says melatonin helps, too.

Well, I'm still smarting from my score....
I would point out that there was no mention of
Holler vs. yell
cast iron cooking
pecan pie
wonder vs. reckon
dinner vs. supper.
Sunday go to meetin clothes.
fixin to vs. about to
cornbread
Yonder vs. over there

Now I feel better!!!

I'm fixin to TRY to go to sleep!!
(My son....a born and bred Tar Heel.....is engaged to a cutie pie from Rhode Island....they met in college and she has found a job and lives in NC...we have the best time "translating" yankee to dixie and vice versa!!)......dadgummit....now I'm thinking of pecan pie. I'll never go to sleep .....THANKS, DOUGLAS!......sniff sniff....can yawl smell cornbread???....where's the butter?

Wow, I was surprised to find out I'm just barely Yankee (44%) when I have lived in the north my whole life. But I have an affinity for good cooking and I've always loved traveling, so maybe I've picked up a few things.

Now, you all are going to sleep and I just woke up.
I married a girl from New York. I honestly was concerned back then if she would be accepted by my relatives in Alabama. No problem, she charmed them so much I think they'd throw me out with the bathwater and keep her!
We're getting 30-45 mph winds here now. It almost sounds like a mini hurricane outside.

And just how do you pronounce "pecan"? we argue at our house about that a lot.

Stay safe with those winds!!

When I was making my list, I was going to include that very debatable word in it but I couldn't figure out the phonetics.
Tallahassee is only 15 miles from S. Georgia. They grow a whole lot of pecans in this area.
The most common pronunciation in this area is ---pee can! Which is how I was raised to say it.

Scored a 63% SOUTHERN SCORE!!! Couldn't beleive it, even though I was raised in the south and lived there most of my life, and decidedly cook like it, I was surprised. Back in the Stone Age when I went up north for the first time I got so tired of people asking me to repeat certain words or phrases because it was just so darn cute I really worked on fixing my drawl. Guess I only fooled myself. LOL

As for the insomnia, is there any other way to live? Been so many years since I didn't have a lot of pain at night or when if I laid in one position more than 30 minutes that my whole body didn't become numb that I can't remember. I just wish we had a chat line, wouldn't that be great?? I finally find people I would like to chat with and there is no chat. AHHHH, the story of my life.

Pattipoo, come up with some more games, you seem to have a penchant for keeping things moving along and putting a smile on our faces.

Hey - we had an real, honest to goodness earthquake here in the UK last night! Only 5.1R but still was felt from south London to Newcastle (where I live) and Wales to East Anglia. Happened at 1 am so nothing too serious happened. Lots of topped chimney pots but little else.

However, since we had been battered by 85mph winds all day, most were inured to the lesser rumbles of the tremor. And me? I slept right through it!!

BTW my score was 53% (Dixie). Barely into the Dixie category. hmm - interesting!
