I've been thinking about you a lot of late. In fact, I don't even know you but I've been worried about you. There's way too much drama in your life right now. Then you come here to vent and we all start lecturing you without understanding your vent. Sorry about that.

You are a strong woman, stronger than I could ever be. However, that does not mean you have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. Just remember to put yourself first. Period. Granted, that may have to wait until your physical issues are straightened out. Once they are, let it be all about you for a time. If that means your husband takes a back seat, so be it. It's your turn, especially with you going back to work early to preserve the health insurance.

I hope you have an uneventful Memorial Day weekend. Something tells me you're probably working. Just take care of yourself, okay?

Hi Surf I did not know where to post. For some reason the last thread you had is closed. Just wondering how you are feeling. Your about 4-5- weeks. Right!!!

Six weeks as of tomorrow. I seem to have turned the corner with regard to the pain. Remember, I stopped taking the prescription pain meds two weeks after surgery. Then I stopped the Aleve, except on days I had physical therapy, about a week and a half ago. The knee doesn't hurt as much as it had been hurting. That's a relief. Now I'm working on the ROM. That's a problem because of my limited ROM prior to surgery. I'm really bugged by the scar tissue at the area of the incision. I can feel it pull. I need it to break away already. Generally, I'm fine. As of June 1st, I'm no longer insured so I only go to PT once a week. That's all I can afford. I can do the strengthening at home, but I need the PT for the manipulation she does to break up the scar tissue. I'd like to keep going several times a week, but just can't afford that.

How are you now that you've had your manipulation?

Well after the Manipulation it is fine. Glad I did it. But I cant afford PT ( I only go once a mth for her to ck me) I did go to the lady that owned the gym. I told her everything money wise and surgery. She now lets mw use the gym and the heated pool for free, except the 1 time a mth eval. Since that happened I found out its not uncommon. Some of them will work with you. What do you mean her and doing a manp. When they press and move the scar tissue?. I also do mt PT at home and just use there pool. At 5 weeks what are you bending at, it might be better then you think. And yes limited ROM prior will make it harder....Let me know about the manipulation part. Please

Well, she wrenches my leg in all different directions. Actually, she's very methodical and knows exactly what she's doing. I trust her 100%. I've seen improvements because of her so I'm not complaining. Right now I'm at about 10 for extension (which I think is where I was prior to surgery) and 102 for flexion. I need much more flexion though if I'm going to continue with my athletic life. She says it's coming. I'm just impatient.

Wow 102 five weeks is pretty good, from what you had prior to surgery !! Really. You will still improve. Really maybe just talk to them and they can work something out. Really someone told me that and I was not sure if they would, but they did understand. I had to pay 377 a mth for my cobra insurance. I had to keep it for the operation. Then 2x's a week for PT (45) each. I was spending almost 700 on my knee alone. At my five weeks, I was still at 90 after the manipulation. (but prior I was only at 65) So you are 102 thats great...Just keep at it, I am now 115. So yes you can get further. I actually think you doing good.Be proud of yourself. I think its great.

Thanks, Kim. I guess it is good. It's hard to be positive when you read about everyone else getting flexion that is astounding. I just want flexion that is good enough for me to ride my bike and surf my boards. I've had limited flexion for the last 29 years. I don't require better flexion at this late date (although it would be nice).

My husband had cancer at the time that he was laid off so his company allowed us to pay COBRA at a reduced rate. In fact, the company paid the bulk of the COBRA amount so we, as a family, were paying about $300 a month for continued insurance. Well, now our discount is over. The COBRA rate as of June 1 is $1300. Obviously, that's an amount that's just ridiculous. As a result, we are no longer insured. I'm just thankful he and I were both able to use the medical coverage when we needed it.

I know that is crazy. That is way to much. We are working just to pay for ins. Well dont be discouraged, really. That is pretty good flexion (I think). Remember you are 5 weeks ONLY!!!! Please be happy,. Sorry about your husband. I am sure things will get brighter for you. Sometimes they say dont look at the numbers. Get to where you are comfortable. I have all the faith you will get there...Dont forget, try to talk to the PT, your not loosing anything by talking. Hang in there, you will be fine. I just know it...(because you want it so much, thats why. lol)

Wow I think your flex is great for 5 weeks. I am now at 115 or so and I am just now starting my 9th week. I think after I reached 95 to 110 I stayed there for a couple weeks. But I think I am now moving on up.

You will get to were you want to be just hang in there.

It's been very hard to literally stop moving and sit still for this knee replacement. I was 40 when my first OS told me a knee replacement was in my future. He then told me to hang on as long as I could. I was shooting for ten years. I only made it to five and a half before I went to a new OS to complain about severe pain. When I realized the knee replacement was imminent, it took awhile to process the reality of it. My primary fear was that the knee would prevent me from returning to an athletic lifestyle. Thankfully, I've found several people (one of whom I found through this forum) who continue to be serious athletes after the surgery. I'm hoping to get back on a surfboard in a few months.

SurfSister--
I think you should be proud of all you've done so far. This whole adventure is a process-sometimes a very slow process-to reach the end. YOU are well on the road that you want for your future and I know you'll get there--one day at a time.
Blessings,
Irene

I am proud, now that you mention it, Sticker Lady. It takes guts to go through this surgery. I think every one of us is truly amazing, especially when you consider that most of us knew ahead of time what this surgery entails. This is by no means an easy process for anyone. Thankfully, this forum provides the support we all invariably need.
