Pam

hi Pam - I flew MAnchester to Atlanta 4 years ago - before TKR but I remember being very impressed with the flight - leg room was good and the cabin staff even did exercises with us to keep the blood flowing! I went with DELTA.
Hope you manage to have a comfortable flight and have a lovely time in America. You will not have the damp to contend with and you sound as though youre going to sunshine and lovely heat!! good luck!
kipper - wishing I was going too!

ps Forgot to say - I didnt pay any extra it was a regular flight.

Leave extra time for security, you will set off the metal detectors. Enjoy your visit with your son.

Thanks Kipper for your comments we are hoping to fly with Delta one thing for sure it will be a lot easier with the new knee.Good point also Jennifer tend to forget that.

Er ... might set off the alarms!

I never went to US in the end because of the economic situation but I was planning to go club.

Never the less, I'm sure you'll do just fine so long as you make sure you get a seat with plenty of leg room.

Hi Pam! Just wanted to add that when you dress for the flight. Wear something that you can comfortably show where your surgery is. Mostly depends on which security agency you get, but I've not seen one yet who won't take you behind a screen and make you show your scar. Every time my husband flys, they almost strip search him! He does have more than one artificial joint and he sets that hand-held alarm system off to the point that they usually call in extra TSA officers. Now days he wears sweats that he can pull up and pull down for easier "show and tell". Don't worry about the flight. Just have a great time! Where in the States are you flying too?
Oh, remember to try and get up and walk around every so often so you won't get too stiff. These are just tips we've learned when we fly. Please have a great time in the States and tell us all about it when you get back!
hugs! Nancyo

Nancyo we are going to fly to atlanta and travel to see my son who is married to a lovely american girl. They live in Knocksville so we hoping to travel down there by car and see a little of America they are hoping to move eventually to Ashville (when they have the money!!) I am looking forward to it as i didnt expect to have a revision so soon otherwise i would have been there last year Just hope the weather is good not too hot not too cold for the old knees!
Love Pam

The main thing is do not sit for long periods, get up and walk at least a couple of times an hour. While sitting you can do isometric exercise like tighten your quads and relax and do ankle pumps (moving your foot up and down). Keep the old blood moving
