Ladies, Tapatalk recently underwent an upgrade so you will need to update your apps.

So just for the hell of it went to see a knee specialist who has free consultation. Went in for an evaluation of my rt knee. The one I got the PRP injections in. So they took X-ray and said I still have cartilage but some bone spurs. They do an injection of Hyalgan with the X-ray as a guide for 5 weeks. 1 injection a week. Cost $130O and of course my insurance doesn't cover it. Since I've had every injection and gel injected I asked what she thought of PRP injections. She said it's very good and they will be doing it soon but not yet.

So the verdict is for some reason my surgeon says replacement. The Dr I've been seeing is convinced the treatments are working as he stretched me and range of motion getting better. My PT still working on my balance and exercises

I've been riding stationary bike everyday for 20mins stretching with bands and doing yoga stretches and using foam roller. The back of knee still hurts when I sit too long like at the movies and I need to massage it to be able to get up.

So no surgery for now!!! She also told me to use a hinged knee brace for long walks (I just walk to my car)
Susanne

Will send pic of X-ray

Susanne, I sure hate to see you keep spending a lot on these treatments that only give you minimal results. Have you thought about just going ahead and getting the TKR? Then you'd be done with it and you could move on beyond your knees! I'm going to tag @Josephine so she can take a look and provide comments.

I know Jamie. But just the thought of going thru it again is incomprehensible. I'm really not paying for any more treatments or co pays. Met all my deductibles. Just wanted to hear what others say. Still have cartilage left in knee it's just that my whole right side from my hip to my ankle is screwed up from my fall last summer.
I don't think I can go through with it again I know it sounds ridiculous but my fear is greater than my pain

I understand. You've been through so much these past years.

Maybe if we talked about your fears it could help. Are there specific things you are scared of? After all, you made it thorough one TKR....you're a strong lady. I'm betting that you'd do just fine and then be able to put all this past you. (((((HUGS))))

Jamie thanks for your vote of confidence. Yes scared of surgery, scared of getting coded and not knowing what was going on (too much morphine) scared of the pain most of all. I know I've been thru so many replacements I'm just not sure I can do again.

The only good part of the first TKR was workman's comp so I had money coming in stayed out of work for 8 months and I lost 25 lbs. That's about i.

Maybe by the time I'm ready there will be new techniques like just sticking in some cartilage between joints. So far the PRP is good. Knee really doesn't hurt just the back which is nothing like before. Maybe they can suck the fat out and put it in knee for a cushion. Good idea ????

Hey, if they ever perfect that fat thing, I'm all in! The important thing is that you feel you are doing okay for now. I'd say go with that for a while until you have pain or your activity is limited with your bad knee. If you're not ready, you're not ready. Just know we'll be here to help you through it when the time comes.

Thanks. I really appreciate it and don't know how I've made it thru these past 3 years without. all the friends and words of encouragement I've made on this site
Susanne
