I am 7 1/2 weeks post op and have been working off and on since week three, I also have and hour drive each way. I take ice packs and ice on the drive ( it really helps). I was wiped out at first but I am working full weeks but have the luxury of putting my leg up on my desk. My stamina is back, but I fight swelling, so I use advil to maintain and it is a huge help. In my case, I found just working up to the full week is a help. Its training that you have to condition for, if simulate a partial schedule at home prior stating school I think it will help. I too came home from work and passed out. Its conditioning

Just don't expect too much! Healing is tough work! (:)0)

Barbara,
I am a teacher too. I teach middle school science. I will be returning to work one week from today on August 24th at just over 8 weeks post-op. I am trying to build up my stamina this week by going into school for a couple of hours a day to prepare my room. I only have a 10 minute commute so that helps.

I hope that we both manage well with our new knees and that we both have successful school years.

Thanks for all the advice! I agree that conditioning is the key. I'm used to taking a nap everyday. I like the idea about ice on the commute. What type of mobile ice packs work best? I'm heading to Target later and plan on purchasing a few.

There are these gel packs - reckoned to last a goodish while. You'd need a cool box to store them in for the journey. Get the biggest ones you can afford.

Hey New knee. I understand about work they let me go while I was out of work I didnt qualify for FMLA and time ran out. )

Can I ask a Question Isnt it against the law to fire someone when they are out on Disablity
I thought for sure there could be a mega law suit in that, Here i am under the impression that i cant loose my job while i am out , if they wanted to get rid of me they would have to wait till it got back and then found a reason to let me go. and what does FMLA stand for?

FMLA stands for Family Medical Leave Act which affects companies with 50 or more employees. It covers serious medical issues, pregnancy, etc.

I'm not sure about your company, but at mine they can fire you while on FMLA if they deem your job is not necessary and they do a lay off.
I'm not sure about the disability law...maybe someone else can answer that one. Hopefully you won't have any issues with it. Fingers-crossed for you.
