I just came back from my first trip for work since getting my two new knees. I did quite well. I had to ride two and a half hours to the airport, then I took at three hour flight to where the conference was being held. I did use airport wheelchairs and a scooter while at the conference but I was able to manage without a great deal of difficulty or pain.

My knees are still not where I hoped they would be this far out from surgery (5 1/2 months) but with 50+ years of knee problems and an injury shortly before the surgery there were times I didn't know if I would be able to attend a conference like this again. I am happy it worked out as well as it did.

How strange! I was thinking about you and your conferences just yesterday! Wondering how you would/had coped. That's quite a milestone. Well done you!

Hi, BigRed......what a wonderful milestone for you! Be proud....it's a real accomplishment!!! Things will continue to get better for you. I'm glad you're being realistic about your recovery. It may be slower than some, but you'll get there just the same.

Great news well done

Love Karen xx

Thank you, everyone.

My husband went with me on the trip to help me if I needed him but I found I was able to take care of myself quite well. The most difficult part of the trip was climbing in and out of the shuttle buses to the convention center. The first step was a real challenge - but I managed.

Many people thought I was crazy for going on this trip. I asked my doctors (both the OS and my primary care physician) and they told me to take precautions but to give it a try. I am happy I did. The conference was very worthwhile. In addition, my two sisters live 4 1/2 hours from the conference city. They decided to surprise me about 2 weeks before the conference and reserve hotel rooms in the same hotel for them and their husbands for Saturday night. (The conference ended at Noon.) We had the best visit. It was less than a 24 hour visit but we laughed almost non stop. I had not seen them in over a year.

I now know that I can travel on my own if I need to and that makes me feel great. I have another trip to go on in March and it no longer concerns me. It is nice to keep passing these milestones. They make me realize that even though my recovery is slower than many others I am still making progress.

Isn't that the best? I am so pleased for you! Wonderful.
