YO! Gang,

I just got home from my first visit with my OS since I left the hospital Sept. 8 She was happy with my right knee and removed the staples that were 22 days old. (I know some of them had rusted) the DR. had some reservations on my left knee, she didn't like the swelling and the discoloration. She removed half the staples that had been there 12 days and told me she wanted to see me again next week to have a re-look at my left knee. Please wish me luck on this left one, it has really given me hell.

God Bless,
Rick

You have my prayers, Rick. Hope all goes well with you.

Does any body Have leg cramps at nite ? I had my right knee done on sept 16 and have had nite cramp every nite since i got home , my knee is fine just don't get much sleep
i wake up in just pain i wake evryone in th house

Patsy,

I have had leg cramps in both of my legs a couple of times since my BTKR. I get up and walk a little, then put ice on my knees when this happens and they stop. Your muscles in your leg have to get use to your new knee. It will past in time.

God Bless,
Rick

Rick..I'm sure all will be fine...hang in there hun...just keep positive an all will turn out ok

Patsy...I too got cramps for a few weeks, and was scared of moving my leg as I felt it would sieze up completely, just massage it for a bit and it will pass...I am now 7wk post op and it seems to have passed.........

keep hanging in there gal....all will be fine I'm sure

Love and Hugs Pat xx

Patsy,
Try taking some Vitamin E internally. Either 200 or 400 IU's......it helps with leg cramps.
Best,
Crystal

If it's very bad - see you GP, get his advice. Maybe he could prescribe you some muscle relaxants to help for a short time.

I have tryed all of what you have been so kind to help me , so far nothing has help, i called my Dr and his nurse told me to take 4 tums and put a bar of soap under my sheet
i did't know what to do it seem silly too me but i did it anyway , didn't work.
It has 3 weeks today since i had my right knee done and my Dr has taken me off all pain meds is this the time you get off rx ?
Thanks for all your help
Patsy

Patsy,

You have got to be kidding about the tums and soap. If you have a OS Doc. or his nurse, who told you something like that then you must have a witch doctor. You should be on pain meds for a least (2) two months are really until you do not need them any longer. Please get with your primary doctor and get some help.

God Bless,
Rick

Good Heavens!

Do you have a primary care physician you can call? You need more pain meds and muscle relaxants. Lots of us have had cramping, and the muscle relaxants help. I'm over two months out and still need my pain meds--not as much or as often, but I still need them.

I doubt very much that "nurse" was trained in anyway whatsoever. In fact was more likely a receptionist or something!

I would say even 2 months was under doing it. Having no pain control is going to severely effect your healing as well as your progress on the PT side. When I said "GP" I meant your primary care physician.

Actually - who took you off the meds anyway? You just said 'doctor' - was that your regular doctor or the surgeon? If your regular one, go to your surgeon and vice versa. You need meds like NOW!

Patsy, cramping can be caused by lack of magnesium I believe, check with a herbal store about the amount you take though.

When you sleep try using a body pillow to drape your leg over. It worked for me when I couldn't sleep, might help with your cramps too? Good luck
