hello everyone.
yes i finally made it. i have veronica in full gear on the right side. os said i cant see it till my two week follow up. the usual 11/2 hour surgery was 4 hours. all the previous reconstruction ended up being a challenge. They built me a new acetabulum and said that the head of the femur was actually only the size of a jaged shaped thimble all the muscles had contracted up around it so he had to release the muscles to get to the capsule. ok so after all that he replaced the entire 1 and 1/2 inches lld. except 1mm. i couldnt have asked for more. had a little nerve pain but i think that was more because the spinal failed. felt like they had the paddles on my right leg when he went in shocked it so hard. ended up with general so i lost most of tuesday but i hear i was very pleasant. lol.

the recovery started i'm on day four. i can do weight bearing as tolerated, i'm on a walker walking 300-400 feet at a time already started on the heel toe. my tiny little home town hospital had excellent care and the pt was fantastic. ot has me completly independant. in and out of the bed on my own in and out of the shower. a little achy but nothing i cant handle. starting to alternate motrin with the pain meds. haven had injections since the first day post op. i can dress myself and even spending time playing with the baby. got plenty of family here dh has been a doll. he's afraid i'm doing too much too fast. pt says i'm where i should be by two weeks.

when my os came in this morning. you know he's been apprehensive about weather i was ready for all this. i told him "i can show you better then i can tell you " i threw off the covers and said look i raised my leg up and did an external rotation of 30 degrees and then lowered it back down then i showed him my pre op pic of my external rotation i said look how pretty and straight my leg is all nice and alligned toes pointing up. i got out of bed and said watch this and walked on my walker around the room. i said look at my shoulders how even they are i dont walk as bad now as i did before. he was smiling and laughing telling me how well i was doing for 4 days. i am so pleased. he underestimated me and thats ok i always knew what i was capable of . so were having a cook out. i'm going to go take it easy and ice up. just wanted to let yall know. thanks for being there.

Hi
I am really pleased for you. You sound like you are doing fantastically!!! Wow!!:thmb:
Keep up the good work, but remember to rest and ice.
Welcome to the `other side`!!!

I am so happy you are done. And on your way to recovery. Seems like you did great. Take it east though and keep us posted....I really am happy for you !!!!!!!I hope you have a speedy recovery....

Yay, Monique! It's SO much better on THIS side! Very good to know that you were so "pleasant!".....they say THAT'S your REAL personality!!! :) Happy Healing!!! :)

So glad to hear from you on the "other side", Monique!! Sounds like you are doing fantastic!! Keep up the good work, but don't overdo! Take care and enjoy the cookout - let everybody wait on you!!:p

Well done Monique, it sounds like you are really doing very well. Make sure you take time to rest though even though it feels so great to be able to move so well.

Keep up the good work :thmb:

Monique, your post was the highlight of my day!!! I am so happy for you. Just don't overdo things.....slow and steady, remember! After all you've been through, this must seem like a true miracle.

Sooo happy to see you on this side Monique :wow: you are doing great! But do follow the advise that's been posted here and get your rest. The surgery alone (anesthesia, blood loss, never mind all the demolition and construction that goes on!:shk:) takes a bit of time to recover from. Keep us posted on your progress!

Monique, It was wonderful to read your post. So happy for you. It just gets better from here on in. Sounds like you made the surgeon's day, too.
All the best to you!
Gail

well i loaded up on iron and with the extra two weeks. my after h/h is 11.5/36. perfect. i was real happy with that. the anesthesia gets to me though i have to admit. i just took a nap and had my leg elevated. yall its tight and a little though getting started but i can wiggle. lol. no pain. the left hip just a poppin. anyways it was fun to try. just a little wiggle not a hoola hoop size. i stood up straight and i felt good i didnt have that shooting pain. this is a beautiful thing.

I was hoping we'd hear from you soon, Monique! Well, a very warm welcome goes out to Veronica! Sounds like you've been showing her off & struttin' her around more than just a bit already! You go, girl! :wahey:

Remember, nursey, she's a "newborn" -- needs lots of sleep & lots of cuddling, so don't overdo now! Glad you're back! :D

wow you are doing wonderful, I know you are so happy to be on this side now gods blessings for your speedy recovery

thank yall for looking out for me. i've been spending plenty of time in the bed. ironically harder to lay flat then to bend my knee. thanks for all the prayers God has been very good to me. i just talked to my brother and this is just the best. i plan to be a good patient. do what i'm told exercise and get plenty of rest. so glad for the help i have. taking full advantage of it. anyhow off to bed. i'll see yall tomorrow. its amazing how there is such a big difference every day. i get excited to see what is next. i wish all yall the very best too.

Monique superb,
See all that worry was for little! Yes THR is a big deal.....but not nearly as big a deal as having to live with toes that don't point to the sky!!! You are doing brilliantly, now pace yourself, do your pt and rest...and read trashy mags, eat chocolate and leave any worrying to the pts and doctors....
Keep up the good/great job....I am amazed that you had the strength to do a straight leg raise so soon after surgery....I certainly couldn't before or immediately after, I simply didn't have the muscle strength!!!
Keep stretching,
Rachel
