Morning everyone, thanks for your posts.Well this is what happened. Monday morning I was to report to day surgery at 10 am but the hospital called at 9 and asked if I could come In for 9 30, no problem. So I showed up, got registered, and proceeded to pre-op where I got Into my johnny and completed my patient history forms. My surgoen came in, and asked If I had any questions and I was wheeled into the O.R. The last thing I remember was a nurse preping my leg.I woke up 6 hours later in recovery,to
my O.S.'s P.A. he told me the surgery went flawlessley, and he woulld be back later to check on me. (Oh,by the way, my
new knee is an Oxford by Biomet) I looked down at my knee and was a little surprised to see my leg in a CPM
machine. I looked up and saw my IV's, saline push, morphine PCA,and antibiotics. The first night was
painful, but not as bad as I expected. Tues. I was on the
CPM for two hours in the morning and two hours in the
afternoon. Tues afternoon after my CPM, I took my first
steps with a walker, There was pain but what unnerved me the most was The knee felt very unstable. (gotta get used to it and build my thigh muscles again.) Wed. was about the same as Tues.,4 hours on the CPM and a very short stroll in the hall, knee felt a little better. I was kept till
yesterday afternoon. seemed to take all day just to get me discharged, well I'll post later, I have an appiontment with my new buddy The CPM thank you all so much for the well wishes and support. all my best, Tom

Hey Tom. I love hearing the stories....lol.....mine was the same way actually it was hard for me to trust it after so many yrs of being afraid my knee would give in I had to get used to it as well.......Good luck with your machine.........Im glad your doing ok..........keep us posted..............)

I've been wondering about you this week. I'm glad to hear you're home and on your way. :thmb:

(Oh,by the way, my
new knee is an Oxford by Biomet)
I've got a Biomet knee as well. :D I'm pretty happy with it as it has handled walking up and down three flights of stairs several times in the last two weeks.

Glad you are home now, Tom, and that the surgery went well. Sounds like you're being a good patient in recovery. You'll get those muscles back again...don't worry!

Funny you mention 3 flights, I'm on thee third floor as well. It
took me half an hour to get up the stairs when I got home yesterday. Busy day P.T. stopped by and set me up with some exercises she also ordered me a shower seat from a local medical
supply company. Set up all my post-op appiontments with my O.S
Now I'm gonna get back on my machine for a couple of hours I'll post again shortly thanx guy's Tom

Your right Judi, my thigh and knee are very red and very warm to the touch.been icing but It doesn't seem to help. anyone else experience this?

Hi Tom, sounds like you are doing better than well. So glad all went well.

I understnd the CPM machine is to keep the knee from getting stiff and to keep scar tissue from forming in the wrong places. (Is that correct / those of you who know??)

Best wishes, take care and rest a lot.
Marquesa
