I have had other health problems that I had to work on before they would do my hip replacement. I am 48 and I have been waiting two years for this replacement. I know I have had a lot of surgeries over the past 9 years, Including removal of my thyroid, roux en y gastric bypass that was just last year and treatment for two bouts of breast cancer. And you would think that this would be a cake walk for me but alas its not.I am more upset about this one then any other. I guess it was the well you can end up losing your leg that the doctor threw at me. That I had to be aware of that part of the surgery humm well I dont think I heard anything after that. I know now that its very rare thing to happen but it is still in my brain rolling around. I have AVN avascular necrosis in my hip and my ball in my right hip is dead so I dont have much choice. I also was told by the bone dr he feels it is from all the prednizone I had to take in the 90's for my asthma when it was raging out of control. I still think part of it is from having my second child that is a long story. Anyway my surgery is Feb 17 I have my dental clearance in already and am going in early Feb for my dr clearance. I have not come here often over the past few months I guess I was still in denial that it was coming up so fast.

Hi, Lady! I'm from the knee side, but I just wanted to wish you well in your surgery. Focus on the good days that are to come and maybe you won't be so aprehensive. Sorry to hear about your AVN....I had that in my knee as a result of problems from a previous surgery. It sounds like your new hip joint will be a blessing for you! You need your life back, girl!!! Please post anytime you are feeling a little down or scared. The nuts here will be happy to do something to cheer you up! ((((HUGS))))) ....Jamie

Welcome to BoneSmart, Lisa. so glad you could join us.

I remember when I had my arthroscopy, the junior doctor came and read out a list of possible complications that ended in "also include infection, need for amputation and death"! I told him that was not what I wanted to hear minutes before going down to the operating department! But bless him, he was only following official procedure. But it did bother me - yes, even me who was aware of it all already. Suddenly it was rather personal!

Anyway, if you have any questions or worries, please feel free to ask.

Welcome Lisa! We're happy to have you join us. As you can tell, we have several so called "sides" to our forum; Hip, Knee, and some sides we're not even sure of yet, but we're all here to help each other and believe me... one or more of us always has an answer. Our wonderful moderator Jo, is an amazing woman with a world of knowledge and a great hand to hold onto in those questionable hours. You are so totally doing the right thing by having your replacement and you'll be amazed at the difference it makes. As Jamie so wisely puts it; " you'll have your life back". So hang tight and stay strong girl. You've had some rough times in the past, but this will put things on a positive track. Anyone who has been through as much you have is a very strong person indeed. I certainly give you all the credit in the world for your strength. We're always here to talk or cry or giggle but mainly to support each other. We do support you Lisa. Welcome to Bonesmart and congratulations on "your date"! It's all going to get better and better!
