Hi All,
It's really nice to finally give a report of my surgery. I had btkr at DMC in Detroit Mi on 12/9. The recovery was marred by a myriad of post surgical issues related to sugery. I was extremely nauseous, could not urinate had to be catheterized three times my thyroid started to under function and I started taking a number of medications to manage the urinary issues created by the surgery. We had tremendous difficulties managing pain without creating that extreme nausea. I spent four days in the hospital and then was discharged to the Hospital Rehab unit for an additional six days.
The care I received was phenomenal. From the doctors, nurses, aids, OT and PT, the staff was universally terrific. I always felt that they wanted the best for me.
At three weeks I just got through a UTI and a possible clot, but as of yesterday, I am clot and infection clear. Yeah baby!!
The actual surgery was vey successful. I currently have 117 in both knees, zero ext in my left and 5 in my right. I manage pain with Oxycodone 10/325.
Regardless of all the feedback about taking enough meds, I'm still trying and balance side and main effects. So sometimes I hit it and other times not. I guess it's just a work in process.
I am now walking without aids, although I have a cane and use a walker with rollers for gait correction. It's painful but it's coming along.
I do notice that for the most part hard work in pt is reworded by increase in function.
So, I've been a avid visitor to the web pages and the times I have reached out I have been wonderfully rewarded by knowledgeable and sensitive responses. I agree with so many of you, that this is a wonderful resource. I fell very fortunate to have found you and I hope to be able contribute in a similar way to others.
Thank you all,
Bennet
