Fifteen days ago (Aug 28th) I had surgery and for days after, I questioned my sanity on what I did to myself. I must say, 15 days out though, I am feeling pretty good. I had the staples out on the 10th of Sept and today, I actually took a shower without any help. I start outpatient PT today which will include underwater therapy, which I am looking forward to. I am still taking pain meds and the knee doesn't hurt all that much and there is a heavy feeling to the knee and I notice that around the incision, there is a numbness which I am hoping will dissapate eventually.
My husband has been my caregiver these last two weeks, but will have to return to work next Monday, Sept 21st, so except for the days when our 36 year old divorced daughter who is living with us, is off, I will be on my own at home. I am hoping by that time, I will be able to take myself to therapy, since my right knee was the one replaced and it is needed for accelerating and braking in the car.
I am hoping that recovery starts to speed up even more now with PT. My house looks like a hand grenade has gone off in it, and I am seeing just how much I actually do around the house to keep it running smoothly. To their credit, my husband and daughter do their best, but their idea of clean and orderly is very different than mine.
Anyway, such is my life as a TKR patient. I really enjoy reading about everyone else's experience which helps my experience and coping with the recovery.

I'm glad you are feeling better. I sure know the grenade look!! Remember to rest , the house is not important

Pleased to hear you are progessing some, Lubbock. As for that numb area, I have just made a thread in the Information Centre (link at top of page), Recurring Knee Info about that very thing. Take a look here Numb area after KTR: how long will it last?

I also moved your thread into the Knee Recovery Room as it was in the Social Room which is for chit-chat.

Hi, Lubbock....I can relate to everything you are saying and feeling. There certainly are those moments after knee surgery that you wonder what the heck you were thinking! But in the end....it IS worth it. Good luck in recovery.

Keep posting to let us know how you're getting along.

Lubbock, I know you wonder how things will get done...eventually everything will get done, don't worry about the house...worry about your recovery. I'm 8 weeks out and my house still looks like a grenade went off. But you know what? I don't care! My concern right now is work and recovery...everything else will wait til I'm ready. As far as you driving to PT, don't rush it. Come the 21st, it will only be 3 weeks since your surgery and I don't think you'll be ready. My Dr. told me that when I felt I could drive then try it. So I went up and down my drive, slamming the brakes like something ran out in front of me...if it hurt...I tried again 2 days later. I drove 6 weeks out of surgery. Some drive sooner but you are the only one that can judge when you are ready to drive. Take care and here's to a speedy recovery!:thmb:

Cindy!! Braking in your driveway? That won't cut it! Go to a vacant parking lot! Or find one after hours to brake hard!!!! Just take it easy!!!! ((:0)

I am Lubbock58 husband I think she is doing great her work emails keep coming and she might be trying to push it a little to hard and the house is not that bad, and she really enjoys all of you posting msg support and your advice
I will be taking her to OP thearapy after work so she will not need to drive yet, will take her out in a few weeks and let her try

Sounds like you are doing great Lubbock and sounds like you have a good man to support you, just turn a blind eye to the housework, it'll still be there when you feel up to it, (I promise):skp:

Hungill....what a great and supportive hubbie you are. Sounds like the two of you make a wonderful team and we know Lubbock is in good hands for her recovery. She seems to be a real go-getter and you may have to hold her back a little....:hehe:. It's easy to overdo it once you start feeling better and pushing too hard can make recovery take longer.

But I'm happy to know she has your support! (((HUGS)))) to you both!

Lubbock,
Just exhale and know that day by day, week by week, then month by month you will get there. You will be able to enjoy life again. But right now you need to relax and yet you body heal. And I promise no little faires are going to sneek in and clean your house!!! It will wait for you I promise cross my Heart!!!! LOL

Yay Lubbock and Hungill !!! Great teamwork!!! Ya can't heal well without that kind of support!! ((:0)
