I went back to work yesterday at 4 1/2 weeks post. Did not feel to bad and ended up working whole day which is 10 hrs. One hour drive home and off to therapy. Back home and started to get chills. Turns out I had a 101.8 temp. Took some Advil and went to bed and fever broke later in the night. Do you think I got the fever because I over did it? Definately 1/2 days rest of week no matter how I feel.

If you get a fever today, I'd recommend you call your Dr. During the early recovery, I got the chills and hot flashes but never a fever..

They speak wise words, exjock.

Once again Doug hits the nail on the head. I would definitely call my OS. I didn't ever get a temperature though had plenty of other things. Best catch an infection early, you don't want to fool around and get into trouble if you can help it. Good luck. Rowdy

exjock,

I got a lot of fevers through both of my kr surgery recoveries. My OS rule was to take tylenol but to call if the fever got over 101. I personally think you got the fever because you over did it the first day back to work. The same thing happened to me. You really have to ease back into your life when you work long hours and have a long commute and then throw in the PT on top of it. I have a VERY similar situation. My work day with commute is 13 hours and that became 14+ hour days when I added in PT. Take it easy on yourself these first few weeks, especially since you've returned back to work a little earlier then most. Karen

I called OS and he did not seem to think it had anything to do with knee. If knee was infected it would be swollen and very painful. He recommended I see my GP. Went to GP and found out that the bladder infection I received in hospital probably never left me and was raging along. They had only give me 5 days worth of antibiotics and sent me on my way. GP gavel15 day supplly and will test urine a couple times over next few weeks to make sure this thing is gone. Damn catheter has caused me a lot of grief. I learned yesterday from both OS and GP that no matter how much you tire yourself this in itself will not cause you to run a fever.

Just don't get Doug started with the cathetars......
Glad you're gonna be ok.

So glad you are aware of what the fever is from just sorry it was a bladder infection. God, I have only had one and that was enough. Are you working or have you taken a few days to get over it? Know how hard it must be to take any more time off when you have just gotten back to work, will send all kinds of good thoughts your way. Can't hurt, huh? Good luck and thanks for letting us know what happened. Believe it or not I tend to worry about the folks I have met on this forum even if I haven't met them. We have all shared an experience that no one else can really understand unless they have gone through the same thing. Keep posting and good luck. Rowdy

Rowdy, anyone tell you what a sweetie you are yet today?

Exjock, I feel I have to disagree with your docs on the fever because I sure get them a lot when I overdo it. That's with or without surgery. Maybe it's just me... I've always been one to be different then most. Good luck with the bladder infection. It stinks to have other problems when you are going through all this.

Rowdy thanks for the thoughts. I have worked same place for over 25 years. They were surprised to see me back so soon. I am staying home now till next Tuesday which they have no problem with. They actually talked me into it. Between my wife, mother, daughter, and assistant I dare not go back to work this week.

Makes sense to me, activity can easily raise one's body temp. And if your defenses are down because you are heal ing AND tired, you're more suseptible to picking something up.
I know this is spelled wrong

Isn't she just! Truth is we ALL worry about one another. S'funny how we have such a strong sense of community here. Don't know of one other forum like it.

AND YOU MODERATE SEVERAL OF ALL KINDS RIGHt JO?

Yep - a gardening forum, a Christian forum and my own Buddy Holly forum! Was also mod training manager for the biggest Christian forum on the net with almost 200 staff but recently gave that up for a quieter life! Think you might call me a forum addict!

Well, we're sure lucky you stayed with US when you were cutting back. This *is* an amazing forum---- and it all starts with you. Thank you Jo!
