Ok I do have to say the butterflies are starting only 13 days to go I know I am going to have a Spinal that is going in when I am asleep,as I am getting the Femoral Block and the day before I am getting the stemt put in because of the last blood clot. My question is where does that stemt go and how do they put in the femoral block and how long does that block last?

I dont know if its the same thing but I had one in my groin area...Very good no pain in my leg, my groin was very sore in about a day after and lasted a few days. I didnt even realized why till Derek told me. You will be ok you have to..This in #2 . Gotta be better and this will last. He seems like he is taking all precautions. And we will be there for ya and your hubby well you know where he will be right by your side...lol

Yes, that's the one, Kim. And the stent will be put in through the same spot, through the large vein in your groin. You'll hardly know they'll done anything.

I had one done for my left knee, although it was great that I felt no pain, it set me back a day when I tried to walk and couldn't feel my leg at all! :skp:

I told my surgeon that I don't want one for my right knee...and I expect to have some pain when standing up for the first time.

hmm....I'm wondering if there's such a thing as too much femoral block?

Lori, I didn't have the block and my pain was very small on that morning following surgery when they had me stand up. In fact, I don't even remember it hurting at all....so if it did, it was minor. Be sure they manage your pain (speak if it's not) and you'll be fine. I liked that I wasn't numb for that day after.

it's a good thing that my OS is very aggressive with pain management. he believes it helps with the healing and therapy that follows after recovery.

Hooray for your doc!!! A good man for sure!!!

I had a femoral l block...it lasted three days..hard to walk with a numb lump I will probably have another with my next knee!:hehe:

My femoral block should have lasted for 48 to 72 hours. Anesthesiologist knock it out while cleaning up after insertion.
Pain after surgery was incredible.

Hi, ktg5. Welcome to BoneSmart.

I'm sorry to hear you had problems after surgery with pain. I hope it got managed quickly. Where are you now in terms of your recovery?

Why don't you start your own thread so folks on the forum can provide support for you directly and answer any questions or concerns you might have. We're here for you!!!

Oh no sorry KT, Mine came out after about 1/2 day yes supposed to last 2 as well. Before that it started leaking and I got a lil at first....but then they did up my lil pain pump thing..but yes there was a big diff when the block came out..I wasnt given the choice but if there is a next time it will be epidural...

I had a femoral block for my ACL surgery--although it was good for pain, I fell down at least five or six times trying to walk with no feeling in my leg. I had crutches and a walker, but I had no idea of where my leg was in space and I would just fall over. I think Jo had that problem after her surgery too. So, if you are going to have a block, be very careful about getting out of bed afterwards.

My doc uses a marcaine pump that sticks out of the side of the knee. I had absolutely no pain the first day---then all hell broke loose!! but, when I got back to my room for surgery, I walked into the bathroom---and then the nurse told me that, I had to call her if I wanted to go to the bathroom---and that she would bring a walker!! I did sneak in one more time by myself--but she caught me on the third try and made me walk with the walker--which was silly really---that thing is so hard to push along---I am glad that I didn't really need it. They stopped after the first day and just let me walk around. But, I had MIS surgery too---no quad cut, so easier to walk.

I'm three weeks post tkr. Range of motion is about 100 x 5/ i think that''s pretty good.

Woke up this am with major hip joint ache. Is that normal or does this mean i also have a lousy hip and recovery will take longer?

This whole trip is depressing.

Hi texas
thank you for replying. Maybe i've had a bad experience. My pain was excrutiating for two plus days along with constant nausea. It took three or four days to stop vomitting. And the pain never seemed to go. Then about day four or five things were mildly tolerable. Because of this horrendous experience the likelihood of my fixing my left knee anytime soon is extremely remote. This is the worse experince of my life.

Recovery is now a bit better. However now my hip is bothering me. Does this mean i have a bad hip?

How long will it be before i can walk a long distance or maybe ride in an airplane or be myself again?

Probably caused by the doc manipulating your leg during the op. Some inter-operative manoeuvres can cause hip pain, so don't worry.

And most of us had a ghastly time first few days or couple of weeks. It will pass and gradually you'll get better and find it was the best thing you ever did!

Hey Kt ,Really I know you dont want to hear it but it will get better. Honestly but everyone is diiferent but at 4 weeks thats when I saw the difference it got alot better. I hope it does for you. I said the same thing, no more never again, but as time goes on you realize you dont have that pain you did before surgery, this will go away. But 3 weeks is so early. Your bend does sound great. I only had 68 so he had to go back and do a manioulation and break up scar tissue. So no you sound amazing keep it up. I think most of us didnt know what to expect and yes the first week as terrible for me as well. But Im 3 mths and I really can do alot we are in the middle of moving well now moving back...lol Im sore but I can do it. I can turn, move, walk its ok. Not saying its over yet but It is so much better. Please post any questions , anytime we have all done it your not alone. I hope you atleast continue to get better . It really is a major surgery it just takes time. but girl be proud of that 100 thats awesome....

Skigirl, falling down that many times couldnt been fun at all sorry to hear that, But after that it sounds like it got easy for you.

Fortunately, I had the femoral block for acl surgery in my right leg. I did not use one for my tkr since I was afraid of falling again. I think I read in Jo's blog that she fell after her tkr after a femoral block. That is a huge danger---I would not like to fall five times with a new knee.\

I stayed in the hospital two nights---I was in a lot of pain there. I went home early and we started using 5 mgs of Percoset every two hours instead of 10 every four hours--that helped alot ot settle down the pain. Also, I used tramadol in addition to the Percoset for the first day or two. My recovery has not been particularily painful---except for the two "stress reactions". It has mostly been tedious lying around with my knee on three pillows and icing. In the beginning, it would tire me out to walk to the end of the block!!!

That was a sensible thing to do, 5mg every 2 hrs instead of 10 every 4.

And I didn't fall so much as just ooooooze onto the floor!
