Hi, eight weeks post right THR. I feel that my right leg is shorter than the left. I've read that usually the operated side feels longer so I'm a bit concerned. Also at times when I'm walking, I get a very grisly (for want of a better word) feeling near the wound. Still quite uncomfortable but have finished taking meds.
Thanks for being here to help.

Hello,
Welcome to BoneSmart and recovery. Thanks for joining us.

Following is an article on Leg Length Differential which you may find interesting -

Try icing your incision area when you're feeling discomfort and see if it helps. The forum Nurse recommends
icing for 40-60 mins, no less, each time you ice.

I do recall various odd sensations in the area of my incision. Warmth, discomfort, prickly sensations, zaps etc. Most were fleeting. If yours continues you may want to call the office of your OS and through a series of questions they will either offer you reassurance, or advise you schedule an appointment. Not sure of your activity level at this point, or whether you're engaging in some type of exercise or therapy that's aggravating the area. Please check out the Activity Progression for THR in the Recovery Guidelines below and pay special attention to the BIG TIP toward the bottom. Stop back often, we're here for support.

Best wishes as you continue healing!

Hip Recovery: The Guidelines
1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
elevate
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)
3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.
4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these
5. At week 4 and after you should follow this

Sleep deprivation is pretty much inevitable - but what causes it?

BIG TIP: Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery.

While members may create as many threads as they like in a majority of BoneSmart's forums, we ask the at each member have only one recovery thread. This policy makes it easier to go back and review history before providing advice.

Thank you @Layla for posting the link for leg length differences. @lhart I would give it time. I will be 3 months post op on the 7th of June. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I felt a little difference in my leg length. I don't feel like that anymore. The correction didn't happen over night though. Welcome to bonesmart. Take a look around. The support it has provided me is priceless. All the best in your recovery.

We recommend waiting 3-4 months before doing anything about a leg length difference. In most cases this feeling just fades away.

This sensation can be either lengthening or shortening so do not be concerned.
at times when I'm walking, I get a very grisly (for want of a better word) feeling near the wound.
Quite normal
Still quite uncomfortable but have finished taking meds.
That's a bit early - you're only 8 weeks out. Far too soon to not be taking anything. Why don't you try 1,000mg paracetamol per day at 6hrly intervals?
