At five weeks post BI-TKR I was told by PT that I could walk on a treadmill at home to help with the recovery. My wife had a treadmill that I had never been on but I decided to give it a try. I got on and started slow and sped up little by little feeling very confident. At 9 minutes 36 seconds I don't know what happened but I fell and ended up getting thrown back against the wall then hung from the front rail trying to get it to turn off. Like an idiot I was in my socks and did not hook up the emergency cut off switch. Scared the **** out of both me and the wife but did no damage. I have a new respect for treadmills I am up to 1 mile, wearing shoes and the emergency cut off.

it was'nt funny at the time but now I laugh when I think of how stupid I was. Reminds me of a commercial I have seen about people falling off of treadmills.

Oh deary me! You're almost as bad as I am! This'll give you a flash-back!

Oh....Max!!! I'm so glad you're okay and that you can laugh about this now. It's a good lesson for ALL of us with treadmills. My trainer tells me this happens to young healthy dudes and dudettes all the time, so don't feel bad!!!

Thank goodness you didn't inflict any serious damage,Max! At least there are no videos of YOU! Lucky it was only your pride! :appy Treading!

We have sometimes balky treadmills at the gym and my husband - a very good runner - has been thrown off a couple of times when the thing stopped cold. I am not a big fan of treadmills although I guess I will start my return to running (small amounts) on one as my surgeon suggested -- when he or my PT says I can -- way, way down the road now as I am only 8 days out. Right now I am trying to find flat roads to walk outside but in this weather in the Northeast -- it's tough. My PT says I can start on the exercise bike I have -- very easily just to work ROM -- perhaps on Sunday..
You are really lucky you weren't hurt!!

Max, glad you are not hurt, know from experience what a scare a fall can give you and I was way further out from my surgery than you. Had I fallen that soon after surgery I truly would have been scared. Just fortunate that we are tougher than we look. I think of the treadmill sort of like that bucking machine they show in bars in the movies. I know if I get on I am getting thrown, only difference instead of being bucked off you get sucked off the back. HORRIBLE!!!! Be careful, will be sure to keep you on my prayer list. God is good at keeping an eye on us jointies it seems, guess he knows we're pretty daring, I mean we proved that when we had this surgery, huh? Best thing I ever did and by far the most daring. Good luck on your recovery, sounds like you are doing great. Rowdy
