Good morning, I was having a good weekend until I tripped on a hiking trail as I moved to the side to let runners go by. Fell face forward with most weight baring on my right side (RTHR almost 1o wks ago). Hubby with me and helped me up after I calmed down. I think I am ok despite the knot on the the side of my thigh, in front of my incision. (Talk about insult to injury!!) Put ice on it last night.

I am planning to get up and go about my work day as it feels like I just got a little bruised.

Should I call the Dr about the fall? Wonder if I could have damaged the hip and won't feel it til later???
Thanks for any input/reassurance.

It's nasty having a tumble when you're anxious about it anyway! All your muscles go tight in anticipation of the impact so then you get jarred all over. Also the sudden rush of adrenaline intensifies it all. Thus you end up feeling like you've been run over by a truck!

So, you probably haven't done anything horrible - the implants are sturdier than that! But keep an eye on things (like you need me to tell you that!) and if something doesn't settle soon, have a word with your OS or your doctor.

Laurie,
I hope everything is ok. That is my biggest fear when out hiking. Well, bears scare me more I guess!!

I was on a trail yesterday with about 10 stream crossings and almost fell at least twice on each one. My older son was with me and finally he said, MOm, why do you keep doing that, just walk throught the water!!!

Hope you are ok

Thanks Josephine and Judy,
I have been checking in from work hoping for a response. Did call my Dr's office for reassurance but no call back yet.

I am a little sore but more from bruising on hip and in my elbow and scraped left knee which took some of the brunt of fall. Just feel like I have a little set back in the healing of soft tissue in hip. Walking is fine but I am moving more slowly on stairs just in case.

Was a beautiful fall day here yesterday and felt so good to be outside getting some exercise--I started cautiously then got up confidence towards end of hike. And I was in process of talking about getting some good hiking boots with hubby.....then came the dive. Those blasted runners!!!! They kept running too as I was lying there--though I did tell them from that position to keep going, that I was fine (more embarrassed at that point).

THanks again! Laurie

As a trail (former) runner, I always stopped when I got near hikers and walked, if small children were around I just stopped!!
I just got new hiking low boots. My doc suggested I do that for more support than my running shoes. Probably firgured I'd be less apt to break into a jog!!! So far I love them and unfortunately have no problem running in them (just a little).

Glad you called your doc, hope they get back to you soon. I got my 16 year and 23 year old sons to come with me. Oldest is leaving today or tomorrow for N., Carolina (Ft. Bragg). He did not want to come, I told him it was also a gorgeous fall day here in socal, he really enjoyed himself and took about 150 pictures!!!
younger son, had his IPOD on and we rarely saw him, he was speeding along.
