When I was at my 1 yr check-up a couple of weeks ago, I asked my OS about my scar. About 2/3's of it was quite red. He suggested part of that was hematoma and scar tissue. He suggested I massage it with emu oil which I could get at any health food store. He said emu oil was a natural anti-inflammatory and would help the scar tissue as well.

I had tried Vitamin E and a product called Bio-Oil early on but didn't see much difference. Anyway I thought it was worth the $15 for a small bottle to try the emu oil.

I can't believe the difference in the appearance of the scar in 2 weeks use. It may partially be because I can now really massage the scar without pain. I Googled emu oil and was surprised at all the claims made of it. I also searched this forum for any references to emu oil but didn't find any, so I hope I am not passing on something that has already been commented on.

For your reference I am including a link to the benefits of this stuff.

:wow: That's really interesting, Vern! And Emu oil even comes in different colors I see! Glad it's working for you!

But I assume you cant take anti inflammatory pills when using that right?????? But if your not and its works......I haven't heard of it but would like to look it up..Thanks...

Hi Vern!
Emu oil is something new for me...never heard of using that, but that's something to consider. My OS recommended using a Cocoa Butter stick daily...it isn't antiflammatory, of course, but it is safe to use in conjunction with whatever meds you're taking, and it did minimize my scarring from my last TKR. But, I will check out Emu oil...interesting, indeed! Oh BTW, is it expensive? i know that Cocoa Butter stick is not pricey.

Vitamin E oil has never worked for me, but I started using it last week and I started a blog about the progress (the link is in my signature). Cocoa butter hasn't ever worked either.

If the Vitamin E oil doesn't work- as I expect it not to- I'll try the Emu oil (and keep the blog updated). :D

I've heard so much good about emu oil but have not gotten around to trying it yet. Do you think they squeeze the emu till the oil comes out, or what???
