Ok, so it’s over. Was back in my room at 11:30. I can walk to the bathroom with crutches.

Just took me a long time to recover from the anesthetic. Knee feels nice and stable. More to come.

    Hi Eeek, how’s it going?

I’m so glad that it’s all over now. I came home from hospital on Friday, so was in for 3 days. I’m more confident with this knee. I am sleeping and resting loads.
I can manage to shower and move around a lot better.
Hope you feel better soon. Rest up.

Hello Eek. My op is Monday 26th Feb and bricking it. But, looking at your reports it seems as all went very well, I sincerely hope I can report such encouraging news once I have my new knee.
    Keep up the recovery.

    Welcome to recovery, @Eeek
I'm glad things are going well so far.

Here is your recovery reading - lots of informative articles here:
    Knee Recovery: The Guidelines
    1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now; they are almost certainly temporary
    2. Control discomfort:
    rest
    elevate
    ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)
    don't overwork.
    3. Do what you want to do BUT
    a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
    b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.
    4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these
    5. Here is a week-by-week guide for Activity progression for TKRs

    The Recovery articles:
The importance of managing pain after a TKR and the pain chart
Swollen and stiff knee: what causes it?

    Energy drain for TKRs
    Elevation is the key

Ice to control pain and swelling
Heel slides and how to do them properly

    Chart representation of TKR recovery
Healing: how long does it take?

Post op blues is a reality - be prepared for it
Sleep deprivation is pretty much inevitable - but what causes it?

There are also some cautionary articles here
Myth busting: no pain, no gain
Myth busting: the "window of opportunity" in TKR
Myth busting: on getting addicted to pain meds

@yesyvonne This is the best place to get information imo. I’m glad you found it before surgery so you can get somewhat prepared.

Ok, so i arrived at thr hospital on 6:15 on Friday, went up to my room, said ‘bye to my husband. The nurse wrote ja on my left thigh and nein on my right, gave me a sleeping pill and I awoke about 11:30 in recovery.

Pain was ok, sort of out of most of Friday. Using the morphine pump... got up on crutches Friday afternoon, walked a little,

But, i had a small problem.i was super dehydrated and my vein in my hand collapsed. Hand swelled. So on Saturday pm, the morphine and electrolytes had to stop. But the pain is well managed so far.

Also had post surgery fever on saturday... but that’s gone today. Looking forward to my shower today.

Pt seems very rational though today we do stairs.

I have good extension and i can sit on the bed with knees bent to eat. Can put on my shoes too.

    Probably here till Tuesday.

Brilliant to see you up and about.

Pain under control and stair, that's so good.

Sure after a shower you will feel more normal

Enjoy your naps. You’ll come to see them as friends. Stairs will be easy, I hope. I found them so, or at least easier than I thought they would be. It’s interesting how very capable a new knee is, even though everything around it —the incision, muscles, and our pain-stressed minds— is in turmoil. Rest a lot and keep up with your pain control.
