I moved to oklahoma almost two years ago, and instead of getting a job in an office, i took a job in a restaurant as a waitress. (Bet thats pretty smart! hehehe) But anyway, I was working like 17 hours on my feet a day and was fine being on my feet all day. Now as a smoker i would take smoke breaks and sit down on this milk crate, and then that would be it for me, i could barely walk on my bad leg anymore. i am ok until i sit down. has anyone experienced this before?

absolutely. I work a morning shift in bakery and then teach dance all night. Both jobs are physical requiring me to be on my feet, running, walking, dancing, and in the bakery lifting things. Towards the end it was unbearable and was taking a toll on the rest of my body as well. Luckily my bakery boss was very kind and gave me frequent breaks and a lighter load. I also wore my dansco shoes to help align my body. It made my back and knees feel ten times better but didn't help the hip at all. I can't wait to go back now post-op and see how great I feel. I have a feeling there will be a new spring in my step!

I dont know. Most likely. The first thr lasted 3 years and destroyed a lot of my femor bone. The doc from hell cemented it in. Why do that 2 a 3o active year old? My and thr lasted 6 years but was dislocating all the time but popping into place on itr own i didnt know how bad until my new surgeon did the third thr and found i was having multiple dislocations and the cup had a worn ridge in it. Long story short i have had 3 good years and i can tell things are not as they should be.

Deb, if you feel things are not quite right with your hip, you do need to find a surgeon near you to have it checked out....if for no other reason than your own peace of mind.

There is a search engine here in BoneSmart where you could start your search for a doctor. Since you've had prior problems, you should hunt for someone who is a revision specialist...used to dealing with problem cases and "redos" of other doctor's operations.

Bottom line is that your hip should be good to go for many years...not just THREE! Everything is probably fine, but if you are bothered at all, get it checked.

Here is the link to the (broken link removed: https://bonesmart.org/clinic_lookup.php.

I work retail, on my feet for most of an 8 hour day. THR on both hips, with 2 year anniversary next week on the right (1 1/2 year on the left), and the right gets a little tired near the end of the day. If I stand around instead of moving around, I'll get a little stiff. I also bought better shoes, with thicker soles, to wear.

That's an excellent point about new shoes, Andy. If a person has joint problems for any length of time, it affects your gait and your shoes tend to wear in a specific way. When you get the joint straightened out, those wear spots are not in the right place and you can have problems. It's a good idea to try and replace shoes as you can for better foot and leg support....or at least get them resoled.
