I am one year out of having my right hip replaced and still have groin pain and weight bearing pain. My iliopsoas muscle is irriatated and going up the stairs and standing up are painful. I also have pain when walking or putting full weight on my right leg. AAARRRGHH I am frustrated!! I am working with an occupational doctor and he is going to refer me to another surgeon in Seattle. Does any of this ring a bell to anyone???

Thanks, Petch

It definitely sounds like you need a second opinion. Please make sure the referral to another surgeon is for a person who does revision operations on hip replacments. That type of doctor is more specialized at looking at problems and getting them fixed.

So sorry to hear you are having these problems. Please let us know how things go.

That's a sad story, petch, and I'm afraid I suspect your cup is loose.

Petch,
I have to agree with Jo. She has much more experience than I, but I'd just bet you that she is correct.
Sounds to me that you have a loosening in the cup area at the least. Please do get a second opinion from a revision specialist that is not connected with your original surgeon. Not trying to sound bad, but you shouldn't be having pain of that sort after this amount of time.
Please let us hear from you again. We are here for you.

Thank you for responding!!!! I do appreciate it. I have found a surgeon in Seattle with the University of Wa. who specializes in hip replacement problems. I am going to see my rehab Dr. on Thrus. and get the ball rolling with him. He already suggested going to Seattle for a second opionion so it should be no problem. I will keep you posted.

Unfortunately I had 2 that went wrong and have just had another fitted and this time it is so totally different, so much so in fact that from when I woke up after the operation I didn't use the attached morphine pump or any painkillers at all either during my stay in hospital or since.
I was up the next morning walking fully loadbearing and haven't looked back.
This monday was 5 weeks and I can walk without pain without any problems and have just started driving and walking without crutches or sticks.

It is so good to be pain free, prior to the op I was having painkilling injections daily.

Just make sure that you get the best remedial surgeon, all the very best.

Wow! Welcome, and more importantly, good luck on your search, Petch!!! Let's hope they finally get it RIGHT this time! You've certainly been through enough!!! ((:0)

Hi, Well, the referal process is under way!!! I am hoping that I can get in to see the surgeon in a couple of months.

Neil, your story gives me some hope. I'm sorry you had two go bad, I can only imagine how miserable that was. Where was your pain prior to the last surgery, if you don't mind my asking?

Directly into the hip joint so that I could not weight bear on that hip without excruciating pain, it got so bad that my Dr took me off of tablets and gave me injections directly into the hip daily which was the only relief that I could find.

Prior to that I was taking all sorts as though they were sweets but they didn't do anything at all.

Since then it has been wonderful to be pain free, now my right knee is starting to give me grief but I know what I will do this time I will search out the best and have it done once.

All the very best with your referal

Neil

Mine did fail. Two days after surgury, I itold the PT and doctor it felt loose. Doc sent me for x ray and reports it was in place and should be fine. Was released from hospital on October 30th and it dislocated on Nov. 2nd. No fault of mine as I was following all precautions. Went back to hospital and doc does a closed reduction and he determines that it is not properly placed and he will have to do a revision. The revision was done on November 6th and I am still in rehab and found out yesterday it is now infected. This has been the worse experience ever and I am hoping it does not get so infected that they have to do another revision. I never dreamed I would have two or three replacements in one month.

Oh hondo - what a terrible experience for you. It seems a bit out of place to say welcome to BoneSmart, but I've said it anyway!

Have they got you on intensive antibiotics? It should be really intensive if it's going to do the job.

hondo i am so sorry. You should start your own thread, we are here for support when you need us
