CPM - When can you quit?

Anne,
Sorry I can not help you with this one.
I only had one to use while I was in the Hospital
Did not have one at home.

Your doctor or PT should have given you some orders. I recall being told in the hospital after my MUA that I had to do it for three weeks. And on that last day of the third week, I unplugged it, wrapped it up and had my son move it downstairs for pick-up by the medical supply people.

A few days later, I had my follow-up with my surgeon and he said I could stop using the machine. Apparently, the order was for six weeks, not three! I don't remember someone telling me SIX weeks, but okay. :hehe:

MY OS told me that it is not effective after you have reached a 90 degree bend. I reached that the second dayin the hopsital and they took the machine away then. there is a lot of controversy about their value--but certainly, they are not useful after you can bend 90 degreees.

Yeah, I was told (after the fact) to stop at 90 degrees. Here I was thinking I needed to keep pushing it. Then the PA at my surgeon's office said, "Oh, you can stop using that thing." That was after I'd reached 90 degrees a week earlier!

Stop at 90.

Good day , im 8 weeks post op tnr and i used the machine for 5 weeks and i feel it was the best part of my recovery. Im doing great and on no medication at all. So i feel the machine is well worth it. The one i used would get me to 120 degrees. Now i ride the stationary bike and does great, take care

No one gave me instructions, but I'll be sure to ask this time. I was at 90 when I left the hospital and they sent a machine home with me anyway. I was ready to go back to work at 3 weeks and asked my PT about it. I couldn't see how I could work 8 hours and do 3-4 hours on the CPM and he said "Oh you can call them to come and get it". Counting the day of my surgery I used it for 2 weeks and 3 days and I had a 120 ROM at that time.

I had my machine at home for 2 weeks then they picked it up.....So I guess my time was up.........Good Luck to you..............)

I used the CPM for two weeks at home after my first TKR. This last time I only used it a few days and it was aggravating my knee so bad I stopped. I called my OS and he agreed, said you don't need to use it. So it depends.
