Ok - Its me up here in the snow- (Well just a little bit of snow)
On Friday afternoon I stood up from behind my desk and the school psych about took my head off. She was extremely concerned about the color of my leg (the one with the new knee). She was ready totake me to the ER. I kinda laughed and joked that I am a chameleon these days. She isn't the first one to notice and I haven't asked anybody yet - so I though I would ask you all. I am like almost 12 weeks since surgery - the swelling is still there but much better than the past. I am a fair skinned german irish girl. Needless to say living in AK I don't get much suntanning in the summer so I am pretty pale when it comes to the legs. Whnever the knee is not elevated the leg gets reddish or purplish (depending on the person - or maybe the lighting) and is really warm. For instance - I am sitting at the computer and have been here for about 30 minutes - the knee from my lower thigh to my lower calf is a pretty shade of red and is very very warm. The warmth is from the above the top of the scar to about 1 inch below it and all across the front - not the back - although sometimes that heats up too.

My school psych is a hoot and I was able to tell her to chill out - and that I thought it just had to do with blood flow to the joint and healing and all that. But the more I thought about it the more I am bothered by it. At PT we never notice because it is red the whole time - we start by heating it up anyway so we always figured that was why.

Using the JAS seems to have not made a change - I had the next teacher over stop me and ask if I was ok - I guess my leg looked purple in the flourescent lights - and that was b4 usung the JAS.

Should I be concerned - I will definitely talk with PT tomorrow and the OS on Wed. I do not have a fever but am always tired (I just figured that was my job - aren't we all after a long day of work???)

Thanks in advance- Sorry so wordy - I haven't talked to many adults today and am taking the time now :)

I think it's probably just the overwork and needing a lot more rest which you can't get. I think you'll find the OS says much the same thing when you see him.

I don't blame you for being concerned. You poor thing, you just don't catch a break and God knows you keep a good, positive attitude and working on top of everything else. I don't know how you do it. I know Jo knows her beans but I would have to have some reassurance from the OS too. It isn't that I am doubting Jo it is just you said the leg is HOT as well as red which is something my OS was always concerned about. I had some minor redness in one leg about two weeks out and he had me come in so he could see the leg himself. Since we were going into the weekend he gave me a prescription for antibiotics to take if I woke up Sat. morning with redness and heat, which I didn't. I know everyone heals at a different pace and that you work a lot of times when it would probably be better for you if you were resting, still you have had a lot to deal with. By the way I read your post and congrats on getting to 95 ROM, I cheered for you when I read it. Anyway will continue to keep you in my prayers. Rowdy

Mine does the exact same thing with swelling after being up and about for a while. I asked the OS about this and he simply chuckled and said that it was nothing and can happen for some time. So I don't worry about colors anymore.

Mine gets pretty colorful as well. I think it has a lot to do with the swelling. It's also usually warm. I just saw my OS last Thursday and he didn't look at all worried. I do think we fair-skinned gals redden up pretty quickly. I'm an Irish/English/Scottish girl myself.

PT said no worries - only if it stayed red - so... No problems just the extra blood moving around - according to the pt - Just elevate and ice!
Thanks - glad to be right there with the crowd!

Wonder if I would get hit if I walked up to a woman and said, " hey, you've got a red leg"....

Doug, you must promise to never, ever leave this forum. Your insight is what keeps me on an even keel. I sincerely hope you don't meet up with a red legged gal with a good right hook. I seem to remember you saying your hip was hurting and I would hate to see you knocked on your bum. LOL. Rowdy

Well I don't plan on going anywhere..With the way my body has been feeling lately, I could be around for a loooooong time.
Haven't seen any red legged women.....and least not in recent years...just sayin'
Yep the hip has been killing me. I took 800mgs. of ibuprofen this morning and worked it out hard. Now I'm paying for it. I'm going to work on strengthening it before I even entertain going to the Dr. for it. Of course in the back of my mind I'm thinking hip replacement but what I am really worried about is another catheter....those things just ain't right. No tube should be running out of THAT!!!

Try having a cystoscopy with just a local then Doug, much more uncomfortable than a catheter!!

Anything that ends in "oscopy" can't be a good thing.

I agree Linda, I was more worried when the catheter came out. I didn't know how I was going to get my Giant(gained 24 pounds) leg off the bed.

I was more worried about the tube catching on the door knob when they made me get out of bed and walk...I imagine the scream would have been deafening.

Made me think of tying your tooth with a string and attaching it to a doornob. It would have been quick

You all can bring a smile to my face - Doug - You are such a silly hoot! Thanks for the wonderful giggles!

Marianne

I guess its a good thing 95% of the teachers in my building are women!
