YO! Gang,

OK back to these horrible TEDs. I am a guy and the Doc. told me yesterday that I had to wear these until Oct. 4. Now, is there any other colors than white or beige. You know like a guy would not mind wearing argyles. We could say were going to play golf.

Rick

Never heard of anything else ... but then I don't know everything!

Linda2,

Good call, now why didn't I think of that. I just need to find at least knee high
argyles.

Thanks,
Rick

Mine were white, but others in the rehab hospital had blue ones......
Best,
Crystal

I've seen them in black. Rick, you could also get ladies argyle tights to put over the Teds. I bet they have them at Target. Okay, take a picture if you do this! :-D

I don't understand why some OS think the TED's are so important and others, like mine, said I was so active they weren't needed? Never did wear them. Do you have a history of clots? Just curious. Rowdy

Rowdy,

No I do not have any problems with blood clots. I am in pretty good shape at 63yrs, 6' and 178 lbs. Other that destroying my body thinking I was a jock for all these years, everything internally is in good shape. I have play to many sports and ended up with knee, ankle, back, shoulder surgeries and now both knees replaced. My OS told me I had to wear these horrible TEDs and believe it or not I pretty much do what the doc says. I wear shorts all the time and would like to not look so unfashionable and to have people stare.

Rick

Rick you got to admit they are pretty cute with shorts. I bet you do get the stares when out in public, too bad you can't get them in argyle, or Pippy Longstocking stripes. Over all you sound as though you are doing great. I believe you are doing what your doctor tells you, I try but sometimes I think I know my body better than they do and so I do my own thing. My new GP wants me to take Tylenol since I can no longer take Ibuprofen, something about it has shown that people who take it with pain meds require less pain medicine. Unfortunately having gone through a pain clinic and learning all the damage Tylenol use can do I stopped taking it after a couple of months. The main reason my pain doctors put my on oxycontin was to get me away from the Tylenol. I took their word over the word of a first year resident. Going back to the GP I saw before my BTKR in May and don't intend to see the other one again. Nice guy but then you know what they say about nice guys sometimes. LOL Hope you are having a good day. Rowdy

there is a non-tylenol version of oxycodone. they gave it to me in rehab. comes in 5 mgm and 15 mgm versions. I never knew it came w/o tylenol and all of the
potential health problems tylenol can give you.

How about dying them? Maybe you could go back to the 60's and tie dye them. Now that would be a fashion statement.

As for using them. I think many doctors are just following guidelines or quality indicators required by medicare or they are just being very careful.

Simon

I just discovered that the TEDS I have been using are incorrect for TKR rehab.
Mine are over the calf and terminate at the knee which makes them act like a tourniquet. The correct TEDS terminates mid-thigh. No wonder they were not very effective at reducing the small amount of swelling I have after surgery. Off to the surgical supply store tomorrow. And a trip out of the house thank goodness. I shoot for about 4 or 5 trips a day to prevent cabin fever.

Why are you all so focussed on the dangers of Tyenol in the US? In this country it's called paracetamol (acetaminophen) and is the most popular over-the-counter pain killer. If taken according to guidelines (max 1,000mgms every 4 hours) it's quite harmless. The dangers come when people overdose themselves either accidentally or intentionally - that very effectively destroys the liver but for lots of conditions - from headaches upwards - people in the UK use it routinely and there don't seem to be any problems.
