THR Colette’s Recovery Thread

Recovery continues apace. I had a bit of a temperature spike up to 38 C last Friday but that was gone by Saturday. It was a bit scary while it lasted but since the scar looked very well and there weren’t any other symptoms I decided to treat it as normal unless it continued for more than a day.

I took things easy on Saturday and Sunday and then rewarded myself with a trip to the shops on Monday. It was nice doing my own grocery shopping (although I normally hate it). No repercussions on Tuesday. Today I’m getting a pedicure, as I can’t reach the right foot and I do not trust either my son or my partner anywhere near me with a sharp implement. :)

I haven’t heard anything yet from the PT department about physio. Feeling ready for it now, although I expect nothing I s going to happen until January now. I will need to chase them today though.

@Colette Sounds like you are doing very well.

Please don't worry about physio - hips don't really need it. That trip to the shops was what hips need. Walking and then not to excess.

@Colette I had a fever last week mysel for 24 hours. I was. Dry nervous but just went away.

No physio until next year is a good thing and even that is too soon. Reaching your foot will come with time.

For me having access to a physio is to be able to put together a safe exercise routine which I need to keep myself sane. So it’s my head that needs it, rather than my hip.

Unfortunately, the December weather in Yorkshire makes walking outside (regularly) difficult and not very pleasant.

From the info received from my physio we wouldn’t do any range of motion work in the first 12 weeks after the operation

Turns out I had a spot of sinusitis and that’s why my temperature was elevated. I spent the last few days in bed.
I’m feeling so much better now I have a clear head.
Managed to sleep on left unoperated side for the first time which was nice but short. I also can almost walk normally without crutches now but taking it easy and limiting that to one or two occasions a day. However, thinking about moving on to using my walking sticks instead of elbow crutches.
@Layla BTW I have been taking magnesium for cramping I experienced after the op and I haven’t had any cramps for over a week now.

Sounds like everything is progressing well @Colette. A word of caution; you are reaching the point where you start feeling better and it becomes REALLY easy to over do. Part of the reason for that is our hips won't complain at the time you are active to warn you but that night or the next day can be miserable. Happy New Year and happy healing!

Have today moved on to walking with my walking stick. It feels like a great relief.

Good for you, Colette, you’re on your way! :happydance:
It will be one month to date, tomorrow, since your surgery.
Happy One Month Anniversary while I’m here.
A great rest of the week to you. :)
@Collette

:egypdance:Happy to hear all is in track and you are over the tougher bits.
Slow and steady Will being more and more improvements.
Getting rid of the horrid chronic pain caused by bad hips is a life changer, for sure.
Onward and upward @Colette :tada:

I had my first physio session yesterday with a hip specialist at Physiocure (Leeds, UK). I have a range of 6 strengthening exercises. She checked my range of movement very gently, it’s miles better than before the operation but no range of movement work at the moment (until 3 month post-op). We looked at my gait and “adjusted“ it, so I’m basically walking normally now. All I need to do is adjust the duration of weight bearing on the operated leg. I can fully put weight on that now but just didn’t do it, guess from habit. She also gave me a massage. It was like heaven and took all the remaining pain away. Slept on the operated side last night without issues. Still, my piriformis is tightening up again. We might try acupuncture on it. Next session is next Monday.

I’m feeling very good at the moment, not least because Friday I took one of my dogs out for a 1.5km walk in the snowy local country park. The other one could have come too, but hid in his “house” when I offered the walk. :bolt:

I also managed to tie my shoe laces on the operated side, i.e. I can touch my foot again. I have started wearing socks again which is nice now I can put them on without the grabber. Didn’t even have to work on it. Note that I am hyper-mobile and far from as mobile as before the whole hip thing started.

I’m back at work on Thursday on a phased return. Only doing 3 days a week in February then full time from 1 March.

I hope all the other December people are doing well, too. Will check posts now. Xxx

Great progress @Colette! :happydance: I had some great results from acupuncture when I was having a back problem, I'm all about anything that helps! Nice plan for return to work, you have this nailed!

My first day at work has left me exhausted but it was good to have the interaction with colleagues (what little there is given COVID restrictions). We are all working from our homes, so it involves a lot of sitting at the computer. I need to get the regular moving routine better than I did today by reinstating the twenty minute reminders.

Good to hear that acupuncture worked for you @FCBayern. I’ll check it out with my physio on Monday.

Good job! Hopefully you can put your feet up for the rest of the day and it runs smoother for you tomorrow. Good luck and a peaceful evening to you.
Thanks for sharing an update. :)
