Went to the Orthopod today and had xrays and an exam. I'm 8 months out from surgery and he said my flexion was still a bit tight (I think its about 120) but I tend to be tight
jointed and never could kick myself in the butt even with good knees. Said my quads and come back nicely. He prescribed an ACL brace (cheap insurance) which I get measured for
tomorrow.

The admonition about skiing was recreational skiing, no slalom or bumps. He said the only patient he ever had get hurt skiing was a hip patient who broke her femur standing in line when someone plowed into her. The prosthetic was fine. I take the no slalom or bumps to mean no competive stuff or no zippering moguls. Sounds to me like the bumps you have to do sometimes to get down are OK (they're just a series of quick traverses).

Told me to come back in the spring and let him know how it went.

I'm pumped for 1 December!!!

That's wonderful, edk.

Congrats to you! My OS reiterated no bumps at all, only groomed terrain and to watch out for the other guy as they are the ones who are going to hurt us by plowing into us! He also suggested no skiing after 1:30 PM daily, as it is bumped up and scraped off by then along with more people out on the slope. Have a great ski season!
Best,
Crystal

So wonderful when one of us finally reaches the pennacle that we all aspire to after this surgery. Congrats. Now you can spend November dreaming of skiing and after that your dreams come true. Good show. Rowdy

Ship4:

My surgeon (who I chose cause he was both good and a skier) said that he worries a lot less about skiing now with shaped skis. He said people used to do the unweight thing and slide your skis which meant you always caught edges and fell. New skis plow through crud and all you have to do is lean.

Congrats and fun wishes Ed. Wow 8 months. Didn't think of it til I saw it in your post. have fun, be careful and watch out for trees! Is break a leg appropriate here?

How'd you know I liked to ski in trees although that is a bit of a stretch for now. I'll also
pass on the broken leg.
