I remember going to the beach at about 8 weeks out. I so wanted to lay in the sand. After a while in a beach chair with pillows on it, I got myself to the sand without breaking any rules.
Well, time to get up was another story. My husband got down and showed me different ways that did not break any rules, well, I did not have the strength to get up!!! I did what I could and he had to haul me up!!! Just a little embarrasing.

Give it time. I asked my wife how long before I was back to "normal" and she told me probably about 6 months. Your at 2 months and I'm at 3 weeks, it just takes time for everything to heal.

Started back to work today. Drive in was easy enough. Sitting in my chair at work I can definately feel the hips and they are stiff. Guess I will have to keep getting up and moving about. Hope to make it through the day ok. Have outpatient PT this afternoon, should make for about a 11-12 hour day all told.

Hello All, well I'm close to my 9th week and I am seeing progress and a pattern. I do my PT on M-W-F and from late afternoon the day of PT until the morning of my next PT I am in pain!!! I get a morning of relief and then back to PT. So I'm looking at it as a good thing. I doing something to gain strength and for that I must pay!!! Still need to take pain meds at night but can get by with a few Advil during the day. I realize now that this is going to take time but if I can shorten it by working out a little harder I will. My first mile on the treadmill took me 21 minutes (lol). My last time out I had it down to 19.5!!! I have to laugh because I love to power walk and use to be able to do a 13 minute mile. I feel like I'm in slow mo! Hope all is well.

Nancy, Wow, sounds like you are coming along so much better in the past week. My treadmill time is about same as yours with only one hip replacement same date as yours. My only problem now, after returning to full time work is some renewed swelling around the incision. Think my hip misses having legs up good part of day!!!
Happy healing, Laurie

Laurie, remember the joint replacement mantra - ice, ice, ice, rest, rest, rest, elevate, elevate, elevate (as and when you can of course!)

That must be quite a workout they have you doing. I'm only allowed about 6 mins on the treadmill during the sessions and not too fast. I don't think she is pushing me for endurance but more for re-establishing my gait. For me, things are still somewhat sore but manageable. I'm about 3.5 weeks post op now. Been back to work since last Monday at a desk job. Some days have been better than others, but I'm surviving it. Making a bit of progress each day, much more visable over several days to a week. Last day for the Lovenox today, thank God.

Bob and Laurie, OMG Bob wasn't that Lovinox (sp??) the worst!. I was so glad I was in the hospital and Outpatient Rehab long enough for someone to give me the shots. I know I couldn't do it myself and I know my husband would have enjoyed giving them to me too much! I am not going to PT anymore. My surgeon said if I had access to a gym I could do it myself. (Remember I spent 2 weeks in a acute rehab facility with 3 hours of PT and OT a day. When I left outpatient I was doing 10 minutes on the treadmill at no faster than 3.0 and 10 minutes on a sit down stair master for 10 minutes. I was also doing leg extensions, leg presses and hip adductors with a pretty good amount of weight. I think my PT guy was agressive and Ithink that's way I'm in pain a lot. I don't hurt myself when I'm working out but I feel it after. I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but I'll see what happens this week. I'm going to keep the routine the same and see if my legs are use to it enough to hurt less. Thank you both for keeping in touch, it really helps to know we are all going through the same things.
