THR Clairebella’s recovery journey

I haven't dared wear any of my open back shoes since the op as I'm worried that my feet would slide around in them too much, if that makes sense. I did buy a closed in pair of slippers and a pair of slip on skechers but not the true slip ons iykwim ? Anyway I bought them pre op when my feet were nice and slim and now they are an absolute nightmare to get on and off especially when wearing compression socks. Even with a long handled shoe horn I can't get my slippers on by myself.

Close to where I live, we have a skechers outlet store and they had the 'slip on' shoes there, they had some in my size but not the right colour so I didn't buy them in the end - wish I had now as they were really easy to get on and off compared to the normal slip on skechers.

I just annoy my husband each time I want my trainers on.

When does the 90 degree rule go and at what stage do people feel comfortable bending down and putting shoes on??

I always mean to ask about swimming and breast stroke - it’s the only stroke I can do and about the only exercise I want to return to.

I’m on week 7 and have relieved hubby of his shoes duties. I use a shoe horn and can bend down enough to pull the Velcro strap over my shoe. Haven’t tried socks yet. They can wait!

Please keep posting about shoe success! Once I go back to my house, I will not have anyone to help. I think I have foot size difference as well. The very lovely boots I ordered had to go back. I do not love having to wear a true slip on but I feel that is probably my best bet.

There are swimming posts- I think the frog kick is a no whether doing breast or back stroke. My breast stroke is horrible but I loved elementary backstroke with frog kick. The posts have other swimming advice as well.

So elasticated but with a Velcro strap and reinforced heel. I have very narrow feet so need them to be secure.

Propet make

I have tried my normal shoes and, unlike last time, no ankle swelling so I can put them on but they need socks.

Re swimming . Last time a did breaststroke with my arms and a flutter kick. Took me a long time to have the confidence to do a frog kick.

I've always assumed it's at 6 weeks but with precautions ie if it hurts don't do it, however my surgeon threw me a bit of a curve ball when I saw him one week after surgery due to my leaky wound. I mentioned to him that my hip had started clunking when I was walking and it seemed to occur after changing direction, he then said I must really make sure that I take tiny steps only, to change direction and also I'm not allowed when sitting down to twist to reach something if it would cause me to cross the mid way line for 12 weeks ! So if I have to keep that restriction for 12 weeks, he might well expect me to keep the others for just as long !

@SurreyGirl I like your bootees, they look nice & comfy, are they pink ? You're so lucky you haven't got any ankle swelling, my poor leg looks like it belongs to someone else.

Yes they are pink! I was so lucky as Got them in a sale and they were the last pair and in my size. I have quite a few pink summery tops and a dress so despite hip was very “on trend”!

Btw I’m still sleeping on my back which is frustrating but hip too uncomfortable even when trying to sleep in my non- operated side.

I’m the same. I wake up and my back feels so stiff! Can’t lie for long on left side also. Rolled onto right by accident and it hurt like hell.

I'm still sleeping on my back and imagine that will be the case for a while longer unfortunately. My unoperated side is my frozen shoulder side and it isn't happy when I try to lay on it for any length of time.

I bet it was a nasty shock when you ended up on your operated side, quite scary as well !

I have a big pillow between my legs to make sure I don’t cross if I accidentally roll on my side. I’m now using icepacks for my back as well as my hip!

Quite a few on sale although I could not find the style I have!
