Yes! January 4th, bilateral TKR and I'm pretty nervous. My surgeon is known to be amazing BUT his bedside manner is not very friendly. He has a waiting list. I have a list of concerns and reading different posts is making me feel better.

@christopher_car

Best Wishes on your upcoming surgery. Your have come to the best place to learn about it and prepare for it. We look forward to supporting your journey!

I moved your post from the January Jackpots thread, that thread is reserved for just seeing who else has surgery the same month as you. We prefer any other comments or questions to be in a pre op or recovery thread, so please continue to post here in this thread.

Best Wishes! :flwrysmile:

My second THR surgeon was the same - direct and all business. But a brilliant surgeon. That was fine for me!

It's great you are a candidate for bilateral. One surgery, one recovery!

There are quite a few of us here who have made the Bilateral Journey, and I for one have never regretted it. It does have its ups and downs, but knowledge is power if one is prepared. So research and ask away - this site is a godsend with lots of sage advice and camaraderi.

My surgery is in 57 days. I'm getting nervous now over small things like a nurse contacted me to ask if I'm going to schedule surgery! I shared I have been scheduled ages ago! Finally got that settled. A concern I'm planning to tackle today is that the pre-op appointments have not been scheduled. I opted for computer generated 3D prosthesis which takes 30 days and i have yet to have my CAT scan. I requested to "bank" blood but the surgeon said that isn't necessary yet my primary care physician says that this is a very bloody procedure. I'm posting this because i have severe pre-op jitters.

@christopher_car I asked about banking blood too and was told the practice has been stopped (at least for joint replacements) because it’s rarely needed. I did wind up needing a transfusion. During the 3 hours of sitting very still I did a little googling and learned that blood transfusion practices have changed a great deal in recent years. In short there is greater concern for safety and it’s done much more selectively.

Before my surgery I swear I needed a whiteboard to keep everything straight!
For me, some things (primary care exam, some bloodwork, any referrals to a specialist for the OK), could only be done less than 30 days before the procedure.
There should be a point person at the OS office you could talk to for the lowdown. For me, things only began to come together in the last 30 days. Good luck.
