I'm a 66 year old male; before surgery I was very active whose pastimes were working out at the gym 4 or 5 times a week for about one and half hours each time, hitting about 100 golf balls twice a week, and playing golf about once or twice a month.

I am now 8 weeks post op left THR. Recovery is going well except for an LLD of about 1/2 inch which the doc says will go away over time ...we will see...Small price to pay for the relief of the pain I had before surgery.

My surgeon last week basically gave me a clean bill of health. He said I could go back to the gym and start workouts again. For cardio he suggested a stationary bike with the seat raised a little higher than normal. I don't care for that. I like to use the Stairmaster and he said that might be OK too..I was just wondering if anybody out there has any comments about cardio exercise after THR especially the use of a Stairmaster.

He said no swinging a golf club for about 2 more months (that would be 4 months post op) and then with some restrictions..He suggested I not wear golf shoes as he didn't want my feet to be planted when I turned back and through the golf swing. Any golfers out there with any comments or suggestions about getting back to playing golf after THR.

I'm at 6 weeks and saw my doctor yesturday. He said everything but running, but my PT still doesn't recommend the Stairmaster at this point. I stick to the eliptical or bike.
