Like Dawnie, I also emailed my surgeon with a short description of my present woes! He emailed me back yesterday afternoon (ended up in my junk mail and I almost deleted it!) telling me to go to his clinic next Thursday. He's a great guy!

I've been taking pain meds every 4 hours - co-codamol during the day and last thing at night and during the night, Tramadol and paracetamol.

What happens is that when the pain killers are active, I'm pretty much fine. Can walk around and do most things. But then they wear off and it's so rotten painful I could (and do) cry! I can't believe this after the two wonderfully pain free weeks. This is so much worse than my right knee was before it was done.

Boy, Jo....it's sure starting to sound like you're going to need a TKR on your other knee soon. I know that's not what you planned, but maybe it will be best to just get it over with. What you're experiencing is what happened to me when my first surgeon did his arthroscopy on my knee....I had a short period of relief and then...WHAM!!! It was gone! I suffered in denial for months before facing the fact that I needed to get the replacement and move on. I was told before that first arthroscopic surgery that there was a chance it would accelerate my arthritis. It sure did! I won't make that mistake on my second knee...surgeries that close together are no fun.

Jo I am so sorry you are in pain. I hope you find relief really soon...even if it is knee replacement. I wish you the best. Take care! You are a very strong person and I know whatever happens you will do just fine!

Well, I am so sorry that your surgery didn't hold you. It was well worth a go, but it seems you need more help there.
I am thinking of you and praying for a productive visit to your surgeon next Thursday.
Isn't it great that you girls can email your surgeons? That makes everything so efficient.
I email my surgeon's nurse, but don't have his!

Good luck to you, Jo, I can't bear for you to be in such pain.

Best wishes, Kimberly

Jo, So sorry to hear you're having problems. I had torn my meniscus twice and had to have it scoped each time after dealing with the pain for months. I'm pretty much convinced it sped up my need for TKR. The first scope lasted me about a year and a half before I slipped ona hiking trail and tore it again. After my 2nd scope I had about 5 pain free days before it just felt aweful again. Tried Synvisc shots, which bought me another 7 months of pain free (that stuff was so great for me), but obviously it wasn't a long term solution. So off I went for my TKR. I sure was hoping this was going to work for you! I hope you get some good news at your appointment!

Well, I shall refrain from saying to him "I told you so" because I did tell him so - when he suggested scoping it, I immediately opined that scoping often accelerated the O/A but he shook his head and said "oh no, no, no! Not at all!"

Yeah! Oh look - a flying pig!

LOL, Jo......he should listen to Momma Hen!!!

Sorry....it's really NOT funny....but kind of, except for the hurting part.

Let's start a club for...no pain for Jo! :fdbk:

So sorry you are having a rough time... you are my heroine! Keep those pain pills close by and please try not to overdo. :gphg:

I hope your pain issue is resolved VERY soon!!! So sorry you are having to go through it.

Jo can't believe this. It sounded so perfect after the scope. What condition did he find your knee in at the scope? I know my knee , at least last year only had arthritis in the patella region. I can't even comprehend how much it hurts when it is in more compartments.

well you are in the best hands and lucky to see yuour doc soon, you should get the royal treatment for all the help you have given others.
judy

Hope you can get the pain under control for now. XX

Incidentally, in case you all thought I might be bailing out because I'm not posting as much as I did - I do read all your posts at least once and often twice a day but I only post in those that really need a response. I just haven't got the mental capacity to be more active. Please forgive me.

Jo....no forgiveness is necessary! NO ONE on the forum expects anything other than for you to take care of yourself and get well. When Momma Hen ain't happy, none of the chicks are happy either!! Hope you feel all the BoneSmart love and hugs that are coming your way. You are hereby officially awarded

Oh, I am sorry to hear about all of this---I also did think of this when I heard about your scope. Two years ago, my right knee had perfect joint space and a full and complete meniscus. I had an accident on one of the lifts at the mountain and my leg was twisted--it got caught in the lift. I almost passed out with the pain, at the time--but, I was in the middle of a ski lesson and so I skid on one foot for the rest of the afternoon. When I got to ski school, I was ina terrible state. I barely made it to my car.

I took off two weeks and then skied the rrest of the season in quite a bit of pain. My OS scoped the knee in May 2008 and removed most of the meniscus. By Sept, I was bone on bone--truamatic arthritis. Sometimes I can hardly believe how fast my knee deteriorated after the scope.

Now, my knee is painful but stable. I will ski on it this year and next. After that, I will have to decide whether to stop skiing or get my knee hopefully, resurfaced!! Right now, I prefer the pain--but, so far, I do not have instablity which is what did in my left knee.

I think you had a successful recovery with your other knee--I wish you the best with this pesky knee too. Kelly

Well, I had the most extraordinary thing happen last night! The pain seems to have almost disappeared! Knee is still sore and achy and coming downstairs this morning was a bit ouchy but the really bad pain is gone! I haven't needed any pain killers since midday yesterday.

Well, this all points to it being some debris that got stuck in between the joint surfaces and it's moved. The same thing happened about several times in the almost 3 years between the scope and the replacement on my right knee. So many times I'd be plunged into the depths of despair thinking this was it and I'd have to stay on crutches until I had the op and then a few days (sometimes even hours!) later I'd be fine again!

Makes you feel such a chump making such a fuss and then all of a sudden it's fine! I shall still go and see his nibs on Thursday but it'll most likely end up being a "let's wait and see how it goes" verdict!

Mind you, from past experience, I know there's every likelihood of this happening again!
