I am now 6 mths on and my knee is sore, swollen and I was getting fed up with it. My friend went to a physiotherapist to have Bowen Therapy and when she came back she came to see me and said "you have got to phone - she can help you." I did. I had the first session and was told to take it easy for the first two days - loads of water. I did that. I then felt SO ILL. All over ill - for five days. My leg swelled worse, foot swollen and pain in my whole body. I phoned the therapist and she said its OK it is bringing up stuff - so I had a 2nd Bowen treatment yesterday. I feel great today and it is forst day I have no pain in my leg at all. Im going back for 2 0r 3 more and she said my knee will be fine. She explained that my knee was not being readily accepted by my leg and it now will "bed in" fine. I am amazed at the progress I am making in only a week. If you are having any problems TKR please consider Bowen.
it is such a strange treatment. it can be used for many conditions. You can have whole body or in my case just knees and legs and feet. I felt a huge surge of heat in my legs during the treatment. It is a very subtle "tweaking" of the muscles around the leg and knee. No pain . the treatment goes on working for about a week . Thanks kipper i will go to the bowen blog sounds like it is something I would be interseted in doing......I wonder if all PTs have access to it ? Going now........Thanks Kim

Wow that stinks I dont think its for the US of course but I will keep checking. Thanks though....

Kim,
I just read about it when Kipper left the post. I know some people get relieve from therapy like this but I do not believe in it. I am over 8 months from BTKR and by doing my exercises daily and I mean daily, I am able to do anything I want. That includes running, which I know shortens the life expectancy of the implants but I am 63 young and want to stay active for at least another 17 years.

God Bless,
Rick

- don't understand it either, Rick! Why does one do a replacement then have to resort to that! JMO! You have a great attitude, Rick! :)

I really havent read it what is it a massage therapy or something like that. I agree I have been doing my excercises and I think thats how I got over my hump well and changing Drs. Thanks Rick

Kim,
The following is from the web site, this is just the basics.
"The basic Bowen "Move" is precise and light. It targets specific muscles, and tendons. Using fingers and thumb, the area is manipulated, the muscle is then challenged and moved in the opposite direction. The patient then will be left for 2 minutes, this allows the released energy to travel through the body fully before the next "Move" is performed. This technique is effective for balancing the Autonomic Nervous System."

God Bless,
Rick

I had one of those a long time ago dont even remember why. Probably because I passed out Lol. No but wow it hurt really bad. I couldnt believe how much it hurt. Not saying it doesnt work IDK but wow. Kim

Each to your own.

i am only telling you because it IS working for me.

No it is not a massage therapy.

Please ignore this post if youre not interested but leave it to other people to make their own choices.

Rick you are lucky to have such success after TKR. Some of us dont have that. so dont knock it.

im actually amazed by the antagonistic replies to this post. Seems to me the clever people who have wonderful knees they can now do everything on are forgetting that some people are posting to say they still have problems with knees months after surgery. Yes, we all are probably doing the exercises - of course we are! but not getting much joy.

For me it has now turned from a really helping group to - in my case - smug replies that dont help anyone. Good for you if your knees are terrific.

Kipper,
I am sorry if you think people here were unkind. I really do not think they meant to be. I found a Bowen in NE. That I am going to check out. It sounds like it would be worth a try. I do not see how it can hurt a person. Thank you for posting about it. Everyone should share all they have tried.

I don't see how any of these responses are antagonistic. You brought up a topic which is unknown to many of us, me included, and it spurred a discussion. That's what happens.

I have been on and posted on countless message boards for over 10 years and this is by far the friendliest of them all. You seem to be being defensive for no reason, because I can assure you that Kim and Judi were not being antagonistic.

Now, that being said, Bowen sounds a bit like Active Release Technique, which is becoming quite popular in the states.

Kipper I am so sorry you took it that way, All I meant was I was chicken. When you first posted I was very interested. I am one of those who need the help. Look at the post another surgery!! that is me. I would probably try anything at this point. I have been thru alot as well. I do not have a perfect knee far from it. I just meant I couldnt do it. I thought it was a deep tissue massage and just said that I couldnt do it but yes some people are stronger. In no way meant to make you feel bad at all. It was a suggestion and I certainly looked at it. Your post was very interesting . Really we meant nothing by it. If I would have thought for one minute I might be offending you I would have never said anything. Truely sorry and still want suggestions I my not use a certain one but always always open.......Thanks for your post as it gave me ideas that maybe there are different things out there . Thank you for that.............Kim

Yikes! Thanks for coming to my rescue, Scott! How can any of us sound "antagonistic" Kipper? - Actually, I am VERY surprised that you would criticize Kim..... She responds to EVERYONES posts in such a warm and caring way! And she spends hours doing so! As Scott points out, that's exactly what a forum is! We are family here! If Bowen works for you.....good luck with it!
BTW, Kipper.......computerspeak is unemotional as a rule...you just can't get all the nuances of emotional! Let me just make something clear......it's not WHAT you say.....it's HOW you say it! You would be very wise to remember that!
