Hello all, thanks for all your concern. Here is the report from
the radiologist.

There are increased uptakes in the right greater
trochanter. Mild nonspecific diffuse uptake is also seen in the right
acetabulum. There is a focal abnormal uptake at the superior aspect of
the right acetabulum. Mild increased uptake is also seen in the right
mid femur near the tip of the prosthesis.

IMPRESSION: Abnormal uptakes at the right greater trochanter,
right acetabulum and right mid femur. Part of this could be due to postoperative
changes of the right hip replacement, but hardware loosening can have a similar
appearance. Clinical correlation and correlation with and X-ray is suggested.

So the OS wasn't happy with the radiologist reading on this, and he said
with looking at the x-ray of the hip, he said it was probably post
operative changes. He gave me a cortisone shot in the hip which didn't
seem to help. So I go back to see him in 4 weeks.

I'm icing my hip and leg hoping that will take some of the pain and
swelling away. And being happy with no revision again. Which I told
him that surgery was NOT an option!!!!!
Thanks all! Any comments or suggestions I would greatly appreciate!!
Jo,,,,,whats your opinion on this report??
Gail H.

To be perfectly honest, his report is somewhat incomprehensible to me. I can't figure what he means by "uptake" - uptakes of what. That's why I thought I'd sooner look at the xrays myself.

I have had a few bone scans myself . The uptake is the injected material and dye. I've had them for stress fractures. The area that was fractured absorb the dye. I had one in the heel of my foot, then they called me back in as they wanted to get scans of my legs up to my knees as the tibia had uptake of the material. So i also had a tibia stress fracture.

Did your doctor see the actual scan or just the report. I know i've often have the doc and radiologist look and diagnose it totally different.
If your new os does not think there is a problem, what does he think is going on?

Eek! How could I be so dumb! They're bone scans - all makes sense now. Bone scans I can't read. Have you a regular xray?

Yes I had an X-ray and it looked ok,,thats why they did the bone scan. The new OS I went to said he wouldn't do anything until it was a year. Well I went to the mall yesterday and had to stop every 1/4 block because of the pain.
The OS didn't look at the bone scan he just read the radiologist report and wasn't happy with the difference in the report.
IF I would have to have a revision, what options do I have? Could I get a MIS revision?

Where the surgery is less invasive??

Have you got the xrays? Can you post them here?

I'm afraid MIS isn't an option in a revision as they (obviously) need to remove as well as insert new ones. And it sounds as if the radiologist is impugning both implants.
