Bone Lesion Surgery

I have a debris-filled cyst the size of a golf ball inside the glenoid head almost in the bone marrow. Supposedly, it’s rare and surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. The plan is to clean out the tumor area and fill it with bone filler. I have several tears as well, but my surgeon doesn’t seem to be as concerned about those at this point. He’s extremely vague as to what I should expect recovery-wise. Anyone here have some helpful insight?

@Iteach Welcome to BoneSmart. What to expect for your recovery may depend a lot on what the surgeon actually does during the surgery. What ever is done, your shoulder is going to be sore for quite a while and you will need to be patient and take thing slowly. I've had 2 shoulder replacements and with each my shoulder was immobilized with a padded sling for about 6 weeks. Then I had physical therapy to strengthen the shoulder and get back range of motion. I'm sorry I can't be more precise about your recuperation -- as I said a lot depends on what your surgeon actually does.

With one of my shoulders I also had a cyst but my surgeon decided cyst was too close to the neck of the bone and to remove it would weaken the joint too much (I also had arthritis and several other problems with the same shoulder) so I got the total joint replacement instead of repairing the cyst.
