bone cement did not hold my knee

I live in the Pocono's. It is cold and wet here today too. The surgery was outside of Philadelphia.

Wow, and you are only 49! Can you check into getting long term disability or other means from your job? Why would they let you go when they see how bad your leg is hurting and needs to be fixed?

I had my other leg done when I was 41. Just unlucky I guess. When I was young I twirled batons and did gymnastics. This continued through college. My legs were actually giving me trouble in high school. I have severe Osteoarthritis and RA. Not a good combination. I work for a major pharmaceutical company. I missed 5.5 months of work last year on short term disability from the three surgeries. I have not told them that I need another surgery yet. I am waiting for the second opinion.

I see. Well you could send the scans to Dr. Maale. He would give you a second opinion if your doctor asked him to do so. :) I threw the discus and shot put in college and back then they thought it was a good idea to put 50 pound weight vests on us and have us run the stadium stands!:yikes: I could feel my knees creaking with every stair i ran!

So sorry about your troubles....thoughts and prayers heading your way. I had a PKR in Nov., 2011 that never felt right. Finally, after giving it a year to heal and with the pain slowly getting worse, I got a bone scan which showed the prosthetic had loosened where it sits on the tibial plate. I got a TKR 5 weeks ago today and it's doing very well so far. I'm cautiously optimistic. My doctor used a different cement this time he calls "simplex". He doesn't know why the PKR failed but speculates that I was allergic to the cement used the first time. Who knows? Keep us posted on developments.

Hit4cycyle,

I am glad that you are doing better! It is great to hear you are doing well at 5 weeks! :happydance:

Wow, you have certainly been through a lot! So sorry to hear that this is still a nightmare for you. I hope that we can provide you with support as you continue on this journey. I too have faith that you will find a solution (hopefully soon!).

I've heard that Dr. Michael Mont is a top revision specialist who focuses on very difficult cases. He is also on the east coast and works with the Mt. Sinai Hospital Center in Baltimore, MD. http://www.lifebridgehealth.org/RIAO/AdditionalinformationonDrMont.aspx

Best wishes!!

What is is about PA and orthopedic surgery??? I keep seeing folks from my home state(williamsport,PA) having horrific post-op stories.
I am so sorry for your pain and distress. As others have said find a specialist, and if you have to travel to someplace like NYC's Hospital For Special Surgery to do it, go! No one should have to be in your condition. In the meantime, get that paper trail started, hint at litigation; make enough of a fuss that you are, at the very LEAST, given adequate pain control while you await rescue.

Pain medication is a problem. I am allergic to narcodics.

That does complicate things.
In that case I'd suggest finding a clinic/MD that does just pain management. You certainly can't be alone in this..I have allergies to some narcotics myself..Demerol for instance, nearly killed me in 1971 and there are one or two others I don't tolerate safely. A pain-management practice will be able to really go over your history and perhaps can come up with something that will help you. Don't give up..you don't deserve to suffer like this. :kittykiss:

You really should at least go see someone at Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. They are ranked #1 in orthopedics in the US by US News & World Report. They develop these joints, they develop procedures. Find a revision doc there. That's the kind of person who will put you back on track. Your surgeon unfortunately tried to address a problem that was beyond his experience/ability. Generally I'm pretty forgiving of human error but not when it comes to our knees!!

Maryo's advice is right on the money. I would seriously consider it were I in your place.
