The lack of sleep has really been the hardest thing for me. I'm one month post op and still having a hard time sleeping more then an hour at a time. I don't seem to need anything more then Tylenol every 4 hrs to curb the pain but at night i take enough medication to drop a 500lb bull and still can't sleep. Has anyone tryed a body pillow with much success? I see there are a ton of different one's on the market ranging from around 10 bucks all the way up to 70 bucks. I don't mind spending the cash one one if it's going to work. Any feed back would help out.

Thanks

Many of us did get body pillows and yes, they do make it more comfortable. I got whatever my wife gave me...No idea on brand or cost.

I went nuts with lack of sleep my first TKR. My sleep with my second TKR has been better.

I attribute it to:

A memory foam mattress topper--SO much more comfortable!

and an Ambien prescription for when I still can't sleep.

Sweet dreams!

Hi, We who had hip replacement also struggled with getting comfortable to get to sleep, esp w/hip restrictions early on. My daughter bought me a very reasonable body pillow at Sears before surgery. It did help through those first few weeks. I am glad we didn't pay a lot for it as now it is just one more thing to deal with on bed--

Take care,
Laurie

I got my body pillow at Target for about $10. It held up real well through two knee replacement recoveries but has now lost its umph. I think it was a very good investment. Karen

I had the same sleep problem for more than a month and little pain. What finally worked for me was 1 to 2 mg of lorazapam (an anti-anxiety agent) which I took about 7 times in a ten day period. Worked great as once I got back in my sleep pattern all was well. This was prescribed by a sleep specialist.

Lack of sleep is horrible so I hope you find something that works and quickly.

I took 1 mg of Xanax and it knocked me out for the night. I tried a bunch of different pillows, but couldn't get my knee comfortable because I would shift and lose the cushioning during my sleep. I finally solved this by wrapping a large, soft towel around the injured knee and it worked wonders. The towel kept the knee a little warm (helping with pain) and traveled with me whichever way I shifted providing the soft cushioning I wanted. Give it a try.
