They can't get my blood, as thin as they won't it. Have upped my Warfarin to 8mg and still 1.5 this monring. My wife is a RN and we were looking on line this weekend, and found that Blueberries and Kiwi are very high in Vitamin K. I eat a cup of Blueberries every monring. I also eat Kiwi and Avocados almost everyday. No one told me not to eat these friuts. They all said stay away from green vegetables and beef and pork liver. We told my Doctor what we found and he had no ideal about these 3 fruits. Just wanted to let everyone know if you didn't already know.

Great post RS I heard of that as well.....Hope you are taking it easy and get that blood straight soon............

That is very interesting. Thank you for the info.

Rsmith....I have taken Warfarin for several years so I'm really familiar with taking it and all the testing that goes along with it. I started it with my cardiologist, not because of my knee surgery. The nurse I work with has dozens of patients and they are so knowledgeable about what to eat and not eat. She gave me a printed sheet of foods and how they impact your blood levels. I don't have it any longer, but your post made me realize that it might be good to post this information here on BoneSmart. Geeze, if doctors aren't aware....then how are patients supposed to know!

I can certainly see why your levels remained low even with relatively high doses of Warfarin! Now that you know about the blueberries, kiwi and avocado.....don't start experimenting with cutting back! The most important thing with Warfarin (or Coumadin) is CONSISTENCY from day to day. So stay with your regular diet and things should be just fine. Or.....if you want to cut back, at least do it in some way that your intake remains stable over each couple of days.

I have a question on that,I love blueberrys just got done a bowl of them with whipped cream, I was told to stop my Fish oil pills 2 weeks before my surgery, also was told that my doctor starts you the day before with coumadin, Do I play it safe and stop eating blueberrys now because I only have 16 days to go before my revision.

Tooyoungforthis: I would ask your OS before stopping completely. My OS called me and said to cut way back on the blueberries and see what happens on my next blood test. He also said not to eat any kiwi or avocados.

Gee! There should be a guide we can All follow! So much conflicting and even unknown info as this just proves!! :)
