Hi, Douglas. Welcome to BoneSmart. There are threads here on the forum regarding blood clots. Some of our members have had them. Our forum nurse, Josephine, should be online soon and can offer you some advice from a medical perspective. Is the procedure your doctor is planning in 30 days a manual manipulation of your leg? You used the word "cut" and that confused me.

You are so new in the recovery process. It is a time when many of us feel frustrated and in pain. It does get better, but it takes some time.

Ouch, blood clots sound bad. i had one after an arthroscopy in the knee years ago. OS put me back into surgery, put in another arthroscope and released the clot. Apparently I sprayed blood all over the theatre...and on the surgeon too....but the pressure in the knee afterwards was greatly relieved...the pain prior to the 2nd surgery was extraordinary
What is Tramacet? and why don't you want to take it?

As Jamie has said, it takes time and you are early on in the process. Try to be patient.....3 steps forward, 1 back and then 3 steps forward, ....but ultimately you're still ahead of where you started
Be patient

This is somewhat confusing/worrying. You have a bilateral DVT and all your doctor has given you is painkillers? :pzld:

No scans? No anti-coagulants like warfarin? No compressions stockings? No clot busting medications? Those are the usual treatment for DVT. And while DVT is unpleasant the real hazard is that a piece of the clot will break loose and get into your lungs which is known as a pulmonary embolus (PE).

If I were you, I'd have a talk with that doctor and require some answers about why such scant treatment, especially under the circumstances that you have recently had surgery known to have a high risk of DVT!

And I suggest you let your surgeon know right away for, if he has any sense, he will not want to undertake any treatment on you right now, especially one involving an anaesthetic. Not even a manipulation.

You might also like to take a look at this site or this one. Good info in both.

Hi Douglas,

Welcome to the forum. I also had DVT after a scope. It resulted in a PE. That is not pleasant and is dangerous.

When I had my LTKR, I had special notes on my records, was seen by a blood specialist before and after the op, and was on Fragmin shots for 30 days instead of the normal 10 day course. About 5 days after the op, I had a lot of pain in the front of shin. (DVT normally causes pain in the back of the calf). They had me back in the hospital right away for an ultrasound in the groin area checking for clots. Fortunately it was all clear.

This condition can be fatal. Please contact your PCP or your surgeon right away.

Good luck

Hi Doug. Sorry I cant add anything to the blood clots. But wow sure sounds like you have had your share. I would do the same, couple people on here that had clots are stilll on medicine. Just talk to the Dr. We are all here for ya...Im sure everything will be ok...........

tramacet is a pain killer, yes I am on warfarin, because I had a clot 2 years ago I knew the syptoms right away,I have had scans at my request, last scan shows scar tissue in calf, did not know clots leave scars, yes it will be a manual manipulation,no one outside of medical profession has a clue about knee replacments, some feel I'm fakeing, some feel I should be running marathons,at this forum I get real input with knowledge...thanks,...Douglas

Hi Doug I had a manipulation 1 1/2 mths ago. Not bad sore for a few days. but when you are really able to bend its really feels good. You do have to excercise but you dont have to be in total pain to do it....I was bending 65, yes scar tissue and now 117 I did have to work up to that though...But it even felt lighter I guess because I could bend...Good luck but all you been thru this will be much easier for you I hope...Please let us know how you made out...Good lUck........

thanks, looking forward to walking down stairs properly, scheduled for intense physio afterwards.

yes ,he is aware,my manip is not till july 21,my last scan was tuesday, they found something but not sure what it is ,could be scar tissue,I'm hopeing to be off warfarin as 6 months is up,this is the first I have heard about conpression stockings,at this forum,I will find out more about this,as of now I will have several questions for my GP.I do not take the pain killers because they put me to sleep and the pain is far less now then before surgery,I have lived with pain for 30 years, now its nothing.

Just take cate of yourself! DVT is really something that should be taken very seriously!

Yes I had the stockings for 6 weeks after surgery. I agree, please get that taken care of. Let us know what he says if you dont mind. Hang in there. We are all concerned about you thats all...........
