Hello, Here's one for you. I've been in the blackberry patch and am pretty sure I have chiggers. However, I have quite a large series of watery blisters on my knee, very near the scar. My new knee is only 6 months old, so I am worried this could translate into something more serious. Any suggestions? I feel alittle bit silly going to the doctors for chigger bites, but then again, it is on my new knee.
I patiently wait for any words of wisdom you may offer.
Thanks in advance,
Hedgep

Why on earth would you feel silly??? ANY questions.....you CALL your OS'S office!!!!! No blackberry pie for YOU!!!

Dont feel silly go.........Dont play around with your knee, please....Just go. If its nothing you didnt lose anything, but if so they can help it....Good Luck...

Better safe than sorry...get it checked. Ever wonder why these things happen on the weekend??:hissy: Your OS is probably in the middle of the Carribean taking a class or in the middle of the golf course...HOWEVER tht is the reason he gets paid the big bucks!:hehe:

If it worries you, then do call. But if the blisters around your knee appeared at the same time you got a bunch of chigger bites from the blackberry patch, I'm guessing it is a dermatitis thing and nothing of consequence for your knee.

Is it possible that you brushed some poison ivy or poison sumac? They are sneaky plants that can hide in bushes like that! Do the blisters itch at all? If they itch and weep, it is likely somethink like this.

But don't ever feel bad for calling to check it out. Your doctor has nurses that are there to answer this type of question for you.

Thanks, as always, for the encouraging words. I talked to the OS on call and she called in some antibiotics to be on the safe side.
We are pretty sure it's from chiggers, dirty people. It's a pretty impressive series of blisters on my knee, no oozing, but they itch like #**##!
Wish I could share those blackberries with you all. They were worth it!
Blessings,
Hedgep

Next time I bet you'll remember the bug spray, huh!! We just went blackberry picking a week ago and sprayed ourselves down big time. Got blueberries too. No chiggers. Spray works! Just watch the knee ones...kind of odd to have chigger bites there and it still could be poison ivy or something similar. You'll know if it is. It will spread some (not be just round bites) and will itch until you think you'll die. Then it will weep. I speak from experience. Hope it's just the chiggers....

Hi generally if chigger bites there appears to have a red spot in the middle.

Had some chigger bits one time. Was told to put nail polish on them to stop the itching. Well did not have clear so I decided to put red
polish I looked soooooo funny with all the red dots. did not realize how many I had. I could not use remover to take the polish had to many. Guess I got carried away. Everyone laughed at me. The polish did stop the itching though.

That's pretty funny, Pat!! I can just picture you with red dots all over! The clear polish trick is an old Southern treatment that really does help. It can burn sometimes, though....but that burn is sorta like a knee replacement....a good hurt cuz you KNOW it's killing that little sucker! Suffocates 'em!

What are chiggers? Never heard that term before.

I think they are actually a form of mites. They burrow into your skin and cause all sorts of irritation. By putting nail polish on the top of the blister, you suffocate the mite. There is some danger that they die in their burrows and can cause some skin infections, so antibiotics are probably the best idea.

I got mites in Guatemala---I had bumpy arms---lots of red bumps all over my arms--the itching was almost unbearable. Went to the pharmacy and they game me a cream--and some nail polish!!!

Jo, here is a web site to explain them. Maybe you don't have them in Great Britain. I would gladly transport all of them in Kansas to you! They are mean bugs!!!

Ah yes! Animals tend to get them. Yuk!

Oh my gosh, you all have really cracked me up this time! haha Who'd of thought a silly, yet irritating, bug could cause so much conversation. Thanks again, hedgep
