Hi new to site having 1st hip done July 25 and will schedule other for fall. Nervous to do but sick of pain and stiffness !! Looking forward to hearing success stories and hoping mine is one of them

@MarilynR1234 Welcome to BoneSmart! Which hip are you having replaced? We will create a signature for you which helps keep track of your progress. Yes getting fed up with pain, stiffness and dysfunction is what leads most people to seek a hip replacement - I've been there, done that and have 2 wonderfully pain fee hips :)

here is our list of articles and helpful suggestions for those waiting for this surgery. do ask any questions you may have and feel free to read any thread here or over in the recovery area.

Having left hip done 1st as X-rays show that is worst. Both are bone on bone . Not sure if surgeon will do anterior as I am 68 and overweight. It maybe lateral

@MarilynR1234 So once you have both hips replaced you will join our double hippy gang  Just FYI the "bilateral" designation is reserved for those who have both hips replaced during the same surgical session. It's still going through 2 hip replacements no matter what the timing is. And hopefully by the end of this year you will have 2 pain free hips! I was 4yrs younger than you when I had mine done and that was 11.5 years ago. Best decision I had made for myself in a long time!

Welcome to BoneSmart, @MarilynR1234! I'm glad you found us.

I'm happy to share my hip story. Like you, I was sick of the pain but very nervous about having my THR. I delayed and delayed and delayed until my hip was so bad that I needed a cane to walk to the mailbox. Then, of course, I had to wait months to get in for surgery.

But I am so glad I went through with it. I am pain-free and able to do almost anything I want. I'm hiking, biking and even practicing yoga again!
Let us know if you have questions or concerns. We're here to help.

My surgeon wants me to get cardiac release because ekg last year showed borderline long qt interval . Has anyone had this and had to postpone surgery?

Had appointment with cardiologist today and said borderline long qt not an issue if being treated with beta blocker , which I am so gave cardiac clearance . Surgery is a go for July 25 !!!!

So glad to read this, @MarilynR1234. Not too much longer to wait, but plenty of time to make preparations!

Happy 4th!

All the best tomorrow, Marilyn!
We will be watching for you on the healing side and hope you'll share your progress there once youre

Bye bye Hip Pain:tada:
See you on the Healing Side.

Surgery went well . Had posterior as Dr found out from X-rays had a collapsed hip. Feeling good except having leg spasms which Dr said is rare but will go away. Flexeril is helping some. Have not seen Pt or Ot yet but so ready to get started so I can go home tomorrow!!

@MarilynR1234 Excellent! It is wonderful to see you on the recovery side. Now please do go over to the Hip recovery section and start your recovery thread
