THR Bickypeg's new hip

I had alot of rough nights too.
You will get there and it will be worth it.
Hugs:console2:

Ugh, sorry to read about a slight setback (it's definitely slight in the long run of things) @bickypeg. But your smart approach of getting some rest is the right one--not always the one that is easy to follow, as we all get frustrated by this, but you really are doing great for someone whose had both hips replaced in a year! I am glad you're able to look back to your recovery from hip #1 to reassure yourself that many of the same issues were present the first time around and--surprise, surprise--you did recover and went on to round #2. I hope sleep improves as it is so important for recovery and yet can be so elusive. Just take it easy, summon up patience and know you are absolutely headed in the right direction--recovery, here you come! Plus, remember you were sick for a week and that is probably dragging things down a bit. Deep breath--you're going to be fine.

Thanks @Barbaraj you always say just the right thing! Much appreciated. Humidifier all set up for tonight and if I feel I need another codeine to get through the night I shall have one!

Hi @bickypeg
I hope the humidifier helps you get some sound sleep. Fingers crossed :fingersx:
Enjoy the weekend with family celebrating your son's birthday.
I'm happy you'll be surrounded by those you love. You seem to flourish in that atmosphere.
Big hugs :friends:

Hi, @bickypeg. I hope your weekend has gone well, and with a combination of rest, icing your new humidifier and those fabulous drugs (!!) you've been reasonably comfortable and able to get a bit more sleep. You are a month out from your second replacement and despite some issues which are irritating to say the least, I hope you can look back to the week before your second surgery and think about how far you've come and how great it's going to be this summer when you'll be feeling so much better with your two new bionic hips! Woo, hoo!

Happy Monday, bickypeg
Hope you had a nice weekend celebrating your son's birthday.
I know you enjoy when your family is by your side. I'll bet good times we're had by all.
Warm wishes for a nice Monday and great week ahead :)
@bickypeg

Thank you ladies. Was a lovely busy weekend.The poor birthday boy had the dreaded stomach bug so no takeaway, fizzy wine or birthday cake for him! So No 3. son volunteered to cook an Italian meal from scratch which was absolutely amazing and much nicer than anything from the local Indian! So he's favourite son at the moment...
Have found a comfy perch on the sofa much nicer than my raised armchair so was able to read, sing and watch Mr Tumble with the granddaughter snuggled up. Also OH brought her uncles' Fisher Price castle up from the cellar and she had such a good time with it! She was rather unsettled at night but as the family were in the attic and I was downstairs in my dining room boudoir that was fine!
Im sleeping through now from 10 ish to 4.15 as a rule with the odd slurp of water. Then I read or mess about on social media until about 5. And in a couple of weeks the clocks go forward so that will be an even more civilised time to get up!
Still finding the car very uncomfortable. Will try a cushion next time but even a short trip down to the hairdresser in the village set my teeth on edge. (That was supposed to be a short first visit for a bit of pampering but discovered my regular young stylist had had an affair with the owner's husband and got the sack. Ended up with the owner's mother taking 2 hours to do a 45 minutes cut and blowdry! whilst being regaled with details. Felt very sorry and sympathetic obviously (!) But was very stiff when I finally stood up!)
Had my daily codeine much later than usual today and not with the paracetamol and I swear I could feel everything drying up as it went down. So hopefully just a very temporary problem and not Sjogrens syndrome after all...I Googled...

Love the bit about the Italian meal and the favourite son!

I am currently at the hairdressers and remember well my first colour and cut after the hip op. The time at the hairdressers was longer than the hip operation!

Do I have to google Sjogrens symptoms now :)

Aww, it's too bad the birthday boy was feeling under the weather.
Cute picture of your sweet granddaughter playing on the floor. It's fun to listen to them quietly talking and watching their little imagination come to life as they play. Special times, dear bickypeg.

It's great to read your sleep has improved and it sounds as though your nocturnal dry mouth may be easing.
I hope the discomfort in the car eases soon. That's something I recall well. I was good for about 30-40 minutes then wanted to get out and walk the rest of the way :heehee: Not really...but I'd get pretty antsy and uncomfortable. There is still a lot of time for improvement as you're only about 5 weeks in. May it only get better.
A great rest of the week to you!
@bickypeg

Family gathering weekends are the best thing on earth in my opinion! That was great of your "favourite" son to take over the kitchen and make a nice meal for everyone. My kids are always playfully fighting over who my favourite is.
Your little granddaughter looks similar in age to my grandson, Arthur, who will be 2 at the end of May? They are a riot to spend time with!! :loveshwr:

I agree, @bickypeg, family visits can be tiring, but mood-wise they are a wonderful boost. Glad to read that you had a good weekend visit despite one son being under the weather. You are lucky to have kids with cooking skills--none of mine seem to have much interest there and much as I love 'em, not sure I'd have any of them prepare me a meal. A lovely Italian dinner prepared with loving hands sounds pretty darn fabulous to me. Sorry to read of a LONG hairdressing appointment, but I'm betting you looked great (nothing like those beautification rituals to slap a smile on our faces!) afterwards even if you were hobbling a bit.

Oh it's so true ladies! And one of the reasons I want to be hale and hearty is so I can do babysitting duties. But I am aware that my happiness is probably too much centred around the children. Husband is quiet and not sociable and has worked away for much of his working life and to be honest he's not great company. Life is so different when you're retired and virtually housebound and it's only as I'm recovering I realise that I need to make changes. I'm a little like @Barbaraj in that my interests have always lain outside the home. Not just the job as a primary school support assistant, but going to the theatre, cinema, visiting old houses, gardens, or simply hopping on a train and going exploring.Lots of walking as I don't drive. I never had hobbies and I'm not a great TV watcher and though a voracious reader it's not enough.
I have plans for some volunteering but otherwise I really need to think about joining things and meeting people. I'm 70 next week (how is this possible! I'm in my early 20s in my head!) and it's a good time for new beginnings.
Hip wise - sleepy all day yesterday, but kept forgetting to take paracetamol on schedule and leaving my stick behind. And finished the anti coagulants. And did a mile around the house! Sleeping longer at night but very stiff getting up. Foul weather with gales, driving rain and a flood alert again so no plans for going out.

You sound like you are doing great...
Forgetting meds and your cane...and glad you are done with the blood thinners!
Definitely remember all the morning stiffness.:sigh:
Hope today is a Good Day, @bickypeg :ok:

Flood alert! Maybe you should take up kayaking...

My husband is obsessed by Brexit but is usually good company. Last night was excessive though due to the vote and more to come tonight :-(

Good to hear about forgetting the pain meds and the cane. All good signs as you are already aware. Stiffness is a huge issue for me too but I am glad I have found that swimming sorts it out...all trial and error isn’t it!

Hey, you'll be 70 years young, @bickypeg. Think of this upcoming birthday as an opportunity to consider all the wonderful options and opportunities ahead of you, once you're recovered fully, and you can plan small forays out of the house or longer ones as time and money permit. I have to confess that as much as I love my grands, the idea of recovering so I could do more babysitting has never entered my mind! But perhaps your career as a school assistant means you're more able to cope and enjoy time with the littles. Sounds like things are going well, with sleep going better despite the morning stiffness (I sleep fine mostly and I'm always stiff when I get up--not sure this will dissipate for you even when you're further along in recovery) and forgetting medication occasionally. All signs of a new and improved @bickypeg!

We should lock our husbands away, kidnap our littles and buy a rail pass! My husband hates socialising to the point that he turns down invitations from work mates behind my back. My kids and grandchildren are my life really so moving closer to them in retirement is a pretty high priority for me. I am trying to create other hobbies (like my quilting) so that I am not 100% dependent on others for my entertainment as I get older. :)

Definitely @Carriemay60 ! I'll come with you!
My next step will be to persuade OH we have to downsize and that a 5 bedroomed house on the side of a hill with huge attics and cellars and a heating bill to match is not ideal for a decrepit old couple! So much STUFF! It hardly bears thinking about...

I am wholeheartedly with you, bickypeg and Carriemay.
Love spending time with the grandkids, creating memories together.
They're precious and time is so fleeting. I already miss some of the days of old with them. Was just thinking on that yesterday. I don't feel like I'm missing out on life by spending time with them because they are integrated into our lives. Soon enough they'll be off and on their way into the world and I'll have all of those wonderful memories to cherish.
Hope you have a lovely weekend :)
@bickypeg

STUFF? Tell me about it! By the time we were repatriated to Canada permanently the company had storage units for us in North Carolina, Canada and somewhere in the States with the stuff sent from Tokyo. All of that plus all our stuff from a 4500 sq. foot house in Shanghai arrived to our 1200 sq. foot + 2 attic bedroom house here on the same day. Our youngest was 17 by then and yet his carry cot, pram, crib and highchair all showed up along with a 12 year old bag of grass clippings. We couldn't even sleep here until we sold some of it. Lol We have a lot of clearing out to do before we can move to our retirement home.
