I'm glad to hear your hip itself is doing well. @Dharlee .... are you diabetic? That can sometimes make wound healing more difficult. It's a good thing that you've been seen by a wound clinic. The vacs are very successful and I'm betting this will work for you. It may be a bit inconvenient for a while, but the end result will be worth it.

Are they still checking pretty routinely for infection with blood work and/or tests of the wound discharge? That would be a good idea just to be sure about an infection.

I am diabetic since June of '21 but have been controlling it with diet completely. Still I know it's harder to heal. My wound Dr was miffed that the surgeon used a drainage tube.

No, they haven't been doing blood work. It's very clean, but just stalled. I dread doing the wound vac. Not so much that it hurts, but the whole thing. I shouldn't complain though, all-in-all I've been pretty blessed with the hip doing so well.

Thank you for asking.

It sounds like you have things under control and a good understanding of healing when you are diabetic. It really can make a difference. And the drain tube probably didn't help the situation either....

Hopefully once you get the vac, things will move along quickly. They really do work well to help your incision heal. You might ask your wound doctor how long he thinks you will need it.....he may have an idea. Let us know how you get along.

I got my wound vac off yesterday evening. It was 3 months to the day since my surgery. It isn't quite healed completely but very close thanks to the wound specialists. You who suggested I see them were dead on. If Id done that from the beginning it would have meant a much shorter time healing. Also, the wound Dr told me he thought that there had to have been something specific to my surgery that caused that amount of bleeding and having to wear the drainage tube. I will ask the Dr when I see him in a couple of weeks. Personally, I think he should have disclosed that if so. You guys have been so great. Thank you! <3

That was @CricketHip and I am tagging her so she doesn't miss reading your positive update. I'm glad to read you're doing better and hope you have a good visit with your surgeon in a couple weeks. Let us know how it goes.
Happy Friday!
