Had BKR on April 24th, was in the hospital for 3 days. Doing great did 3 loads of laundry 2wks after and the laundry is in the basement. It is now 3 1/2 weeks post op and I'm going back to work tomorrow. My knees are still stiff and painful but nothing like before the surgery. I have always healed fast anytime I have had surgery. The only problem I really still have is that I get tired faster then usual. I guess with myself I just believe that I can do things sooner than other people tell me I can.

Well congratulations to you..It just gets better with time. Keep doing your exercises though.

And don't expect anything but feeling tired. Remember that even though you were only in hospital 3 days, it does NOT mean you had a minor op. Quite the reverse. You had a MAJOR op and the healing demands a lot of energy from your body. Therefore you need rest and lots of it. Doesn't mean you can't do things and be active when you want to but do please listen to your body and when it tells you to rest, get those feet and and nap! You only have so much energy reserves and if you use it all on activities all the time, the body won't have any to use for healing. OK?

Good advice for healing. Glad you're feeling good. It is always such a relief to be rid of that presurgery knee pain. I know my OS(PA) said at my 3 week visit that I was where they see people at with 8 weeks. So if I plateaued in my recovery they would not be concerned. Course I didn't like that thought. Fortunately I haven't. Point is, keep healing! :-) And welcome aboard.

Wow! You're just a week "ahead" of me (my surgery was on 4/30), but I'm nowhere NEAR doing laundry yet because it entails too many stairs. But then again, can't say that I'm really pushing very hard to DO laundry!!!! lol....I'm kind've enjoying having hubby doing it, although the white towels aren't nearly as white as when I do it. But that's a small trade off in my book.

Congrats on such a fabulous recovery!

Weezy, trust me on this one......don't let hubby get close to the bleach..That stuff wasn't meant for men..I've gotten into lots of trouble with that stuff. And we just can't deal with panty hose!! They get stuck on my callouses. Bras in the dryer?? And I refuse to hang them on the door knobs to dry. Of course he could have fun and pull one of the straps about 2" higher than the other....just sayin'

You are evil on Monday's, Mr. Doug. I'm thinkin' your sweet wife didn't leave you a big enough chore list for the week and you're findin' time to get into trouble.

I just got back from Costco..I can shell out some money when I go to that place. I was walking along laughing thinking of how much trouble I'm going to be in when she gets home tonight----I can just hear the , "did we really need that?" "Where are we going to put all of that"?
We have company coming to town Thursday for the long weekend so I have an exhaustive "to do" list. I just needed a little ice on the knee time. I jumped all over the legs this morning at the gym.

I tried a new "trick" with my knee yesterday when gardening. I was trenching a bed with an edging tool (by hand, of course....no motorized stuff for me). The ground was quite dry and between that and the old chips of mulch, the tool was not going deep enough into the ground to make the trench. Soooo....as I used to do pre-TDR....I jumped up about a foot in the air and came down on the foot bars of the tool with both feet. First time I had attempted to put that kind of stress on the new knee. It was fine. I only did it a few times because I didn't want to risk really hurting myself if it was going to do anything. But I figured it would be no worse than running a few steps or an accidental fall on the knee. Later in the evening, my knee hurt a little, but no worse than the day before when I worked 4 hours in the garden. So I guess I have that little bit of my life back. The knee is definitely tough....just like the doc said!

Doug, we keep saying we're gonna go up and join Cosco. But we are kind of like you....not safe in a big store like that. So, the way I figure it right now, we're saving money by NOT belonging. One day we'll do it, though. Too many of our friends tell us how great the store is.

I went to costco last week and don't think I saved. $100 on stuff and $50 on gas. The only real needs were gas, milk, half & half, pig ears for Maisy and bottled water. All else was "junk". i don't think I should feel guilty when I leave. And they DID NOT have the tillamook cheese. But they do have a BIG roll of goat cheese for $5. I get that each time I go. Doug, my son came home from a weekend trip with a friend once and his friend needed to use the bathroom after the long car ride before he went home. Matt called ahead on the cell to give us the heads up and prayed that there were no Bras on the door knob in the bathroom. He was fortunate that day.

Ours just opened and this was my third trip out there.
It's the unique stuff that nailed me today..Greek stuffed grape leaves. I love them. And they have a 3lb. box of beef brisket that if fantastic. It's in two packages. With the three of us it is several meals.
This Costco has the Tillamook and now that my son has tasted it, I had to get some more of that.
The salmon gets plank grilled tomorrow night.

Oh No Doug! Do not feed the teenage boy food. Once they start, it doesn't stop.
I saw those grape leaves and thought about it, but I knew how the balance due gets at the end of the store so passed. But now you've got me reconsidering. I splurged on Perdues General Tso chix. Not bad, but hubby said not as good as real chinese.

That's a riot, I saw the General Tso chicken and picked it up..Looked at the cart and put it back. They also had an orange chicken.
I do generally have to feed my son about every two-three hours. I bought a box of three pizzas for his "snack". But then he works out 3-4 hours a day. Karate, kickboxing, weights, and running. Ahhhh to be young again.

I discovered Wal-Mart last week on the way out of town for our hunting trip. WOW! So, this week did our grocery shopping there. It is equivalent or less than our Winco stores (bulk grocery) in pretty much every area. I noted milk was $2.38 for brand name Umpqua (excellent local brand) and 1.98 for generic. Lots better selection of Weight Watchers stuff, too. My son and I had a lot of fun!

Costco is our stop once a month for things like TP, paper towels, etc.

Watch the meat at Wal-Mart..I've stopped getting any there. I had returned meat that was spoiled four time!!

Yes, I saw the oragnge chicken I might try that next time. They live on frozen pizza even to 19. Least mine does. The sample givers get me about half the time. you can get a whole lunch on a good day.
OK, back on topic, best thing I've ever done. Guess that we can talk about our adventures as normal walking folk in giant warehouse stores is pretty cool. I can do 2, 3, 4, 5 or more things a day. Tomorrow is 9 weeks and I can't believe how fast it has gone. Why did I wait so long?

Once I quite laughing about your comments regarding the laundry (you ARE a devil, aren't you???), I read this one! Your wife must be in despair..... (lol....)

But thanks for spending so much money at Costco! We too live the Costco lifestyle and can't walk into the store without buying something we did NOT need; and the sad thing is that hubby works at Costco corporate, right across the street from their flagship store where they try out new merchandise. Sigh. We're doomed!

Weezy

Weezy, do you get an employee discount. that would be as they say..."SWEET!"

Weezy,
I'm a retired cop..One of these days I'll share some of my other pranks. We stayed in trouble on night shift.

I only bought ground turkey. Hope that wasn't what you returned! We have a steer in our freezer and I like to get meat at Costco... it isn't really any less expensive, but it is much better than the regular grocery store.
