Hi and Welcome, Mike! A good start would be to ask your general
Practioner. Good luck to you! :)

You may find you need to make a list of knee surgeons and 'interview' them using my list of questions in How to choose a surgeon and a prosthesis. Also in the post are some other points to consider when making your choice.

You could also phone physiotherapy places and ask them as they would know which surgeons to recommend and which to avoid.

Phone Physiotherapy, Jo!!!! Now THAT's a must!!! :)

I said that ...... didn't I?

Well not exactly in your backyard but pretty close I had my BTKR done by Dr. David Bahnson at Vermont ORthopedic Clinic in Rutland VT. Crystal aka ship had her's done in New Hampshire and also had a good outcome. i am sure she will log in and give you details.
You are also not far from the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.

Austin,
Simon was right. Here I am. I had BTKR done in Concord, NH at Concord Orthopedics. My surgeon, broken link removed: https://www.concordortho.com/physicians/display-physician.aspx?id=15, does lots of them and even fixes botched jobs from other surgeons. He holds an excellent reputation. I was fortunate to be able to be referred to him (at my request), and have such a positive outcome. I had surgery on 6/18/08 and was back downhill (alpine) skiing on February 1st this year. He is a wonderful surgeon who believes we should get our lives back sooner than later! I have my one year check up this June where he will xray both my knees and use this xray as a basis for my future xrays every 2 years to keep tabs on the wear and tear of the joint. According to him, my replacements should last me my lifetime if I come in every 2 years for xrays. I will not feel the wear and tear on the spacer, but the xrays will show it. When the time comes for my spacer to be replaced, he will do it and I will be as good as new!
Best,
Crystal

Austin I have a great surgeon in Paramus, NJ - about 15 miles from Manhattan. Dr. Mark Hartzband. He is affilaiated (both doesn't work for) Hackensack University Medical Center which is a very good, patient-oriented hospital. He chose not to work for HSS (Hospital for Special Surgery) becaue he wanted to build his own unit out here. HSS is the 10 pound gorilla in the NYC area of course; they are known for their orthopedic work with many good surgeons. I have a friend who lived in Vermon but now lives in Ct. who went to Boston for his 2 partial knee replacements. Not exactly sure where Bristol is but I could get his surgeon's name for you if you want. He's done very well.

Hi Austin
I live in enfield. I had my knee done in November 2007. Dr. Kenneth Alleyne in south windsor is my ortho. I swear by him. I was the youngest he ever replaced at the age of 41. He was the ONLY one who listened to me about my quality of life which was zero. He is on the web and well known. Check him out if you want more info on him e-mail me any time at [email protected]
Take care,
Debbi
