Do the offices overlook the Inaguration site like Time Square at new year or whatever street it is that the Macys Thanksgiving parade passes down and people watching?

Oh, nothing so grand. Just an office full of cubilces about 10 miles east of the Capitol Building. I do have a grand view of our parking lot though... ;-)

You could stay here Jen: https://www.hayadams.com Obama and his family are currently staying in this hotel and it's right next to the White House. You could be neighbors with the Obama clan! :'D

I wonder if they've completely closed this hotel down while he's staying there. I know they've closed the road off.

There is one picture in the photo gallery on their site. It is of a small outside rooftop dinner setting table over looking the white house. Spectacular! $599 a night, little out of my league.

All you good people that work in the DC area deserve the day off! Don't see much work production thats going to be done on this historic day!!! DC on a good day is tough to navigate!!!

You are right Judles. It is hard to get around here.

Jen, I think the 599 rate is when the soon to be prez is NOT staying there! It's out of my league too but I might be able to swing it if they dropped the 5.

Having lived in Los Angeles for most of my life before coming to DC, I'm fine with the traffic on most days. Its trying to find a parking place that's the pits. Some parking garages charge up to $24 a day and street parking is virtually non-existant.

We do have a pretty decent subway system, but it is going to be totally overwelmed with the crowds that are expected on the 20th. Picture 1 million+ people jammed into a long tunnel underground!?! IMHO, the Metro system could be a tempting target for a terrorist wanting to inflict mass casualties...

Karen, better yet... take out one of the 9s. lol

Where is that web site, Jen? I bet that is the old Hotel Washington which is right across the street from a Treasury Building. They have a lovely rooftop restaurant and bar that overlook the White House. We used to stay there when I traveled to Washington just because of that restaurant. Loved it! Rooms back then were not $599 a night, though!!! I stayed in one once (at the "government rate" that honest-to-gosh I thought was really a closet with a window. You could touch the walls on either side of the bed (just enough room to walk to get in and out of bed) and there was only about 2 feet between the end of the bed and the television armoire. The "view" out the window was a brick wall about 4 feet from the glass. But.....then there was that great rooftop restaurant! We used to sit in the bar for hours looking out over the city and watching the planes fly into National Airport. Haven't been there in ages.

Ohhhh....Jen....now I see what you were talking about.....the Hay-Adams website. That is a great photo and it's not the hotel where we always stayed. That one looks great too.....expensive, but nice!

Did you find karen's link in her post or searched it yourself? I bet where you were thinking of is nice too. Do you remember the name?

Counselorjt, sorry we hijacked your thread. Are you excited/nervous about your upcoming surgery? Glad we can be here with you through it all. When you are biding your time on the mend you'll actually be grateful for our sidetracked ramblings. That and the pain pills. Anyone suggest stool softeners yet? They will be very important.

Thought that would have to come up sooner or later!

Oh my gosh.........please DON'T forget the stool softeners! You've got to trust us on this one!!!

The hotel we always stayed in is a very old one....the Hotel Washington. It is right next door to The Willard, which is VERY expensive. We used to go to The Willard for dinner and/or drinks but never could afford to stay there. There is a small restaurant/bar called the Old Ebbit Grill where we ate a lot. It's right across the street from the Treasury building too and supposedly is a place where you might see some of the senators and representatives. But we never did. The year the Kansas City Royals were in the World Series, we sat in the bar at the Old Ebbit and cheered our team. They must have thought we were nuts. I even had a small Royals banner. Wild, crazy kids we were way back then. That was the mid-80's!! Nice memories, though. I was lucky enough to travel quite a bit in my job back then with the Marine Corps. Fun....and rewarding job!

Wow.....truly didn't think of the historic day when I naively said, "Let's do it on the
20th." I've enjoyed all the Washington info. The sudden switch to stool softeners was too funny. It was like, "Oops, someone's overhearing our conversation. Better get back to business." Speaking of "my business," I am a little concerned because I really depend on the flax oil I take every day and must stop taking as of today. Also, my Advil has to go for awhile...yikes!

Counselor, you're a good sport for all our ramblings. I think that's the most fun about our forum....we go along on a topic and then completely get into something off the wall....just like a real gab-fest among friends! Jo is kind enough not to beat on us too hard for getting off thread. And it's amazing what you can learn about people and things when you read all the ramblings!! Hope the loss of Advil isn't too bad for you. It will all be over soon!!! Can you use Tylenol for any pain?

Well, I'm having a change of heart about that, Simon - I'm going to start jumping on grossly off topic posting. It's confusing for newbies and guests.

I was taking fish oil and taking 4 - 6 Advil a day before the surgery too. It was a bit of a challenge weaning off the pain meds, especially trying to sleep. But Haven't missed the Advil at all since the surgery.

IMHO, Advil (Gel Caps) helped relieve my arthritis pain better and faster than anything short of narcotics prior to surgery, good stuff!

My OS prescribed Celebrex at my first visit, about 8 weeks prior to surgery, and by the time I had to ditch the ibuprophen for surgery, which scared me too, I was actually OK. Celebrex is expensive though. And in old threads courtesy of Wayne we learned about a very effective topical ibuprophen. Also expensive but not having the same side effects of ingested. I'll try to find the thread.
