I just was scanning over the section on our "badges of honor" .... i.e. our scars. Why are some of the scars so short and others long like mine?

Because they were done by different surgeons! This isn't like dressmaking where two people work off the same pattern.
Besides which each person's surgery is very different from anyone else's.

But how can they can the knee piece in through that small (it looks like about 2" or so) hole?

My surgeon went into my old scar from a surgery that was performed in 1980 and back then you got one heckuva zipper for reconstructive surgery. I have a small scar on the side of my knee for the MacIntosh procedure in the 90's, a scar from softball, and a scar from a heating pad that had slipped out from the protective cover and burned me. I never felt it.

The surgical incision is longer than 2" for a TKR.

Those small ones are probably partial replacements.
